Anyone else pick this up? Looks like it could be an interesting series, but I don't like the changes they made to the costume. _________________ Jim Harnock - ODS

Havent seen it. Whats the costume look like? I always enjoyed 'Storm, but they just didnt capitalize on him enough. Heck, with his kind of powers he could be a fantasitc hero. _________________ =============================

He's got these wierd swirly things on his face now and the top of his mask (just before the falmes start) has a kind of Wolverine-style flare. For the rest of him, he just looks like he's wearing spandex -- no pointed shoulders, no puffy sleeves. _________________ Jim Harnock - ODS

| I picked up Firestorm #1 back in the 70's. Is this a new series with the same character? |

It's an updated version. Same name, same powers, different guy. _________________ Jim Harnock - ODS

I really don't know what happened to the old Ronnie/Doc character. From what I gather, JLA is the only title Firestorm was appearing in before this new series started and I haven't bought a JLA comic in a decade. _________________ Jim Harnock - ODS

I'm gonna give it a few issues before I make any decisions real on it. I don't care for the costume changes.
Professor Stein had originally been destined to be the earth's fire elemental. Ronnie's presence at the explosion caused his inclusion in the mix. Throughout the series, many changes had been made to the Firestorm persona, including the exclusion of the Professor from the Firestorm matrix. By the series end, the Professor was the only entity involved in the Firestorm make-up. The Professor/Firestorm ended up trapped in an unknown sector of space due to the final battle with Brimstone. He travelled and explored for years. Upon his return to earth, much of his humanity had been lost/forgotten. But he remembered Ronnie. He discovered that Ronnie was dying of leukemia (probably due to his time as Firestorm). The Professor/Firestorm did some tinkering with Ronnie's DNA and viola, the classic Firestorm was returned to the DC universe. Unfortunately, this time it was just Ronnie. No guidance/inclusion from the Professor. This, of course, had the effect of rendering the Firestorm character much weaker in regards to controllable power. First we had writers that had no interest in Firestorm because he was too powerful. Now the writers don't want to deal with the character because he has too many limitations. I give up. I just wanted Firestorm to be used again. So I'll be supporting it and I'll give it time, like I said before I got so verbose, lol. I just hope they don't muck with him, too much.
Sorry I got so longwinded;) |
