I want tos end out a warning to all the macintosh users (I havent tested this out on the Windows platform).
SR4 has two serious, and I mean SERIOUS bugs that have ruined Poser 5 for me.
First --- On a dual G5 1.2Ghz machine, with 1.5GB Ram, it use to take 30 minutes to launch the application. Very bad, but I learned to live with it.
Now --- It takes near 3 hours to launch the application. Sure I have a lot of files, but we all do, and thats expected in a program like Poser 5.
But the major one I discovered just now -
When changing the background color of the window, it doesnt change, and retains the original color, even when rendering.
I have contact CL's like a madman, and yet they have yet to respond or acknowledge the problem.
Recomendation - Spam them and refrain from using the update. And spam them, spam them spame them, until they finally take the Macintosh OS seriously, since without Mac users, the original Poser 1 wuld never have made it to the scene.

OK...heres a workaround. Im sure CL's will say this is how it has to be done, and its ridiculous.
In the materials room, instead of your figure, select the background setting.
There you will see BG Coloring for the background. Everytime you use the normal menu to change the background color, it adds it here, but keeps the original coloring set. You have to manualy go into it, and select the default color, and change it there.
This works, but adds more time to doing something that took 2 seconds to do before.
Again - A rant, but completely within my right. _________________ =============================

HEck, I would gladly test the software out, free of charge, if only for the updates, to ensure that its properly tested. Im sure there are dozens here with the same experience or more who would do that. _________________ =============================

Hasdrubal, EGI-sys did indeed get rid of almost the entire Curious Labs staff after Poser 5's release, however, there were a lot of independent "beta" testers (really the product was in alpha stage) and we pointed out everything that was wrong with the product at the time. EGI-sys chose not to listen.
Now, who they had test the Mac version, I don't know. Wasn't on that beta team.

See...Why am I not surprised that someone here was part of that team?
So did Vicky's Morphs work properly the first time around? lolo...kidding...
I never blam the testers. Ive worked in Software manufacturing and communications...ITs always left to the Big Talking Head to make the decisions, and when his/her decision falls flat, they blame the peons for it. _________________ =============================

Let me guess if this is correct. The Giant Head does his best to wreck his own company, fires most of the staff, and then raids the benefit and pension funds, and quietly retires with a large bank account in the Kayman Islands. It's a neat pattern established by the Studebaker Automobile Company in the early 60's, and widely copied ever since.

19 secs to launch P5 on my DP 1.25Ghz (Panther)
...I have my default doc set to load with no figure.

Dammit... I did check some forums before applying this patch and didn't see anything about this bug. This is indeed nasty.
I find it kind of odd that the foreground, ground plane and shadow colors don't suffer from this bug.
From PoserPros forum:
1. Open the problematic file
2. Go to the material room
3. From object menu select background. You'll recognize that there are duplicated nodes.
4. Select and cut/delete all duplicated nodes except for the "BG Color" node that was originally connected to the Background root node.
5. Save the scene.
In case you have set to open new documents with your preferred state, the problem still will reproduce in files created by File->New. Please repeat the process described above after creating a new file and set the preferred state again."
Resetting my preferred state after deleting duplicate nodes has fixed the problem for me.

I love my new Kupie Doll =)
Thanks! =)
Ive learned to live with the slowness. The slow render times, the slow animation render times...I just like to bitch a lot =) _________________ =============================

I am using PC, not Mac, but when I tried to load SR 4, I thought it totally sucked. Fortunately, I saved the SR3 files and was able to just reload my basics and upgrade (downgrade?) back to sr3 again. My advise? Don't play with any more of the upgrades. It seems like they are screwing up more than they are fixing.

heh, so finally I find it was was wiser not to load the SR4 and stick with the SR3 on P5... they even released SR4.1 (I think), but I still won't dnload it... Microsoft's Windows XP's SP1 update messed up my computer more than i expected too, so I'm done with flawed upgrades for the time being. _________________ **************
