Ok, so it's kind of a mini-obsesion with me at the moment - horror, and all - but the thought occurs that there is room for a 21st century equivalent to the old EC comics: Tales From the Crypt, Tales From The Vault, Tales of Terror, etc.
This could have several advantages. First off, the anothology-style comic could lend itself to a collective of writer/artists, rather than a partnership. This could mean that deadlines would be easier to reach, as each story/issue could be shared out aong them. It would be a good way to shocase new artists or writers, perhaps teaming them up with more experienced partners for their turn in the driving seat.
Possible disadvantage I can foresee is that, with it being non-sequential, it would mean coming up with new characters and sets for each story. That's not such a problem in traditional comics, when all it means is drawing a different picture. But when you have to model a new set or location from scratch, as well as designing new characters every issue, I can imagine it would become something of a cross to bear.
The reason this idea comes to mind for me at the moment is i'm heavily involved in studying horor at the moment - specifically its current upswing in popularity in live theatre perofrmance, but this means taking a look at the horror genre in general. In particular, my focus has been on the Grand Guignol, a French theatre which specialised in horror and violent melodrama from 1897 to 1962 - and whose plots heavily influenced the stories of the early EC comics (se how everything works round in a loop?)
I'm currently looking at how to take the Grand Guignol tradition and update it - adapt old plays into the modern setting, or try and create new horros for the contemporary audience - and was wondering if the same could be done for comics. So what do you all think?

Well, it was as a writer I was tentatively offering my services on this matter.
Not sure I could take all the workload on this level myself, though: and I also like to work in a slightly more collaborative manner, throing ideas back and forth with the artist and getting the basic gist of the script that way, before beginning to write up the treatment.
That said... if any artists are out there who are interested in working in this manner, on an 'adult' horror-themed comic book, then drop us a line. And if there are any writers out there also interested in the venture, and want to contribue to the anthology, then let's get this party started!
