Alright Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls, and the rest of us that don't really fall in either of those categories...it's topic time!

If you can't tell by the topic title it's your favorite Anime Series, and there's been quite a few over the years so it shouldn't be hard to think of one.

Now I was extremely extatic when this series came out on DVD box sets since I hadn't seen it since I was fifteen. ROBOTECH, and I don't mean the Macross or the Masters series, I liked the New Generation (Mospeada). Maybe it was the Cyclone motorcylces that turned into battle armor, or the giant Invid Shocktroopers, or it could have even been Rook she was a hottie (hey I was only fifteen remember).

I had a couple of the action figures but they were pretty hard to come by in my little po-dunk town, never did get the Shocktrooper or the Scott Bernard Cyclone...oh well, Dad would have just thrown them away later anyway

Ok time to pop the DVDs out again.....next!

Here He Comes
Here Comes Speed Racer
He's a Demon on Wheels........

Speed Racer is the only anime series I ever really liked.

The genera has continued to deteriorate to lower and lower standards over the years. The worst series has to be the one with the fighting characters that are supposed to attack each other, but spend most of their time chattering about the hit point values of their magic cards. I think the series is called Oogie- Boogie-0 or something like that. There's no story. It's just marketing for collector's cards.

I can't imagine the value of the cards appreciating when most of the kids will be embarrassed that they ever collected the stuff when they mature. The cards aren't like sports player cards because most people have a life long interest in sports.

Yeah, Robotech was great. Macross, anyway -- I don't think I ever saw the Invid Invasion series.

Does Voltron count as anime? If so... Voltron tops my list without a doubt.

It's a tough choice - UC Gundam series are all great, but I will vote for Escaflowne. The story is epic, the characters are well-defined and motivated. Gasaraki and Inuyasha are also some of my favorites.

Robotech, the Macross series was without a doubt my favorite. Roy Fokker....the man. And it was the first cartoon played in america that actually killed off one of it's main characters. That was unheard of then....hell, it's pretty much unheard of now. It wasn't a cartoon to sedate children or market toys, it was about good storytelling/drama/action. And was there really a better team than Rick Hunter and Max Sterling? I think not..lol.

Coming in a close second however is Battle of the Planets. I was extremely happy when i walked into a suncoast video to see their dvd's for sale.

Haha, it seems to me like you haven't even seen a "real" anime. Just take a look on any masterpiece from Ghibli or Gainax and you'll know what I mean.

Personal favorite is the wings of honneamise, princess mononoke and lupin 3rd: castle of cagliostro.

If I had to choose any one favourite at this moment, it would be Inu Yasha. Most of Rumiko Takahashis' work appeals to me largely for her style of drawing and strength of characterisation, especially Ranma and Urusei Yatsura. In actuality, if it hadn't been for earlier works like Macross I would never have discovered Anime, or be inspired to draw or use programs like Poser.
Another of my top favourites I'm going to mention is Tenchi Muyo, the original OVA series. And yes, it's because my favourite character is Ryoko!

I think Hasdrubal and I are from the same general time period. Probably not ANIME in the present sense but Speed Racer and MARINE BOY were my first intro to this Genre! I remember running home after school to catch them both on of the UHF channels (remember THAT??)

Marine Boy was about some kid who could breath underwater by chewing Oxygum. He had a suit with jet boots and a pretty cool electric boomerang. His sidekicks were a mermaid named Neptina and a dolphin! Over the years G-force and Battle of the Planets were also enjoyed.

Nowadays it seems anime has really caught on with kids! Lots of it seems VERY adult and buying it for my kids is a learning experience to say the least. There is some stuff out there that is ultra violent and sexual in nature. Most of the anime seen on US television is cut or censored in someway! Some cable channels are starting to show the uncut versions though!

Anime has definately influence Marvel and DC quite a bit too! Alot of the art has become very stylized and popular anime artist are being hired by both companies!

I've see and own Ninja scroll, Giant Robo, Wings of Honneamise, Akira, ghost in the shell, Romancing of the 3 kingdoms, Dog warriors, but for my favorite of late, I enjoy the pure energy and action of The Getter series and MazinKiaser.

Have you seen Jin-roh? It was an interesting statement if politics.

Wings was enjoyable. I liked the fact that the two countries were fighting over the shuttle, and what it meant to both of them if it launched or not.

Doomed Megalopolis was a very good series. The slant of the brother having urges toward his sister was well protrayed.

I own quite abit of anime, and have been watching Go nagi's stuff for the moment.

Oger slayer was a a very distubing anime when I first watched it. And blackjack.

Didn't like Lupin3rd.

A lot of you guys seem younger thean my thirty years and Anime has changed a lot over the years. I can still remember climbing into my mother's bed in kindergarten to watch Speed Racer every day before school and that will always be one of my favorite memories. But I have always been partial to the more cerebral Anime. Specifically Cowboy Bebop. With the music, original plot lines, and well defined characters I find it to be one of the greatest Anime seris ever created. The movie did not carry the same edge as the manga or the seris. Also on my list is a cartoon that isn't really Anime being that it is American in origin but I believe it deserves to be mentioned and that is Samurai Jack. Never have I seen a cartoon so artfully done. With such simplicity in the actual character drawings a whole believable world is opened before me. And one can even "watch" Samurai Jack just by listening to the background sounds. The leaves rustling in the wind. The dripping of icicles into the stream. And of course the amazing portrayal of Aku by veteran actor Mako. Genndy Tartakovsky has finally shown that good Anime doesn't just come from Japan.

Tony24680 you have highlighted the best aspect of anime - There is so much excellent work that it is difficult to narrow it down to favorites. I am nearly 50, and have seen the first wave of anime. A movie called "Alakazam the Great" was released in the early 1960's. And "Kimba the White Lion". Then in the late 60's-early 70's I saw Speed Racer, 8th Man. Prince Planet, Marine Boy.

Newer works I like Cowboy Bebop, Eat-Man, Vampire HunterD, Spriggan, TriGun, and Ghost in the Shell.

I agree, Samurai Jack kinda grew on me.

Macross is great, as is MobileSuit Gundam and The 08thMS Team, or any of the UC Gundams. GundamWing and GundamSeed are Ok, too. And Blood, the Last Vampire.

OK, does Cowboy Bebop count as a series? If so - that's my pick!
