congrats to the winners but maybe the judges need to read the stinkin rules about POSTWORK!!!! Dont get me wrong I am not being a sore loser the winners had excellent images...but alot of people did it with very little postwork like the rules stated! So remember everyone next time just postwork the crap out of your image why should we follow the rules if the judges dont!!!!!!!!!

I would say the chances were even for those who use more postwork and those who don't.

ok your right they are guidelines...so may i suggest that they Make them rules..and still I am not being a sore loser or debating the winners. Like I said the winners did an outstanding job and deserve to win...I am disagreeing with the way things are judged. A rule needs to be drawn up and not guidelines that is why you have contest... to see who stays within these rules. I am sorry that I have enough backbone to voice my opinion and not be another suck up.

The fact remains that none of the three winners used any significant postwork in their winning entries. You seem to conveniently overlook that. And speaking as a judge, we DID take into account postwork, both in the preliminary and final stages of judging. Not to belabor the point, especially to someone who probably won't listen, but I feel obligated to second what ODS said. There were many contest images that were visually astounding, but weren't chosen because of the level of post-work used on them. In making my personal contest choices, I looked for originality, creativity, devotion to the theme, and artistic quality, carefully screening those that were over-PhotoShopped. In looking through the choices of the other judges, I think they shared my thought process.
look i listen and now that you as a judge have explained some of the ways you look at images your
process makes more sense. But I never said the winners postworked the crap out of their images you assumed that. I do not agree with the term guidelines...there should be exact rules. That is what makes a contest a better challenge. When you see that there are images that have used five or six programs and 2 or 3 draw programs it makes others wonder..like what the hey they used alot of postwork, or outside programs..I don't think the judges are listening to me. As I state again FOR THE 3RD TIME THE WINNERS DID AN OUTSTANDING JOB!!! AND DESERVED TO WIN!!
Alot of people do not understand the process of the judges and when it is not explained they tend to question the thought process of the judges, and when it is explained even if one person is raising the flag it helps alot of others. There should be specific rules and not guidelines then there would be no debates! Thank you billybob for sharing your
thought process and to orca also, now we have a better insight on how the judges think. Orca also kudos to you for the stuff you do. But maybe next contest or have a contest have specific rules so that you can see the true mastership of a paticular
program and artistic ability. thanks for the feedback

Now ez_wood you may have a point but like ODS stated you kind of went about it the wrong way.
Like BillyBob and ODS I judge in similar ways, which one is more inspiring, lighting, composition, pose things of that nature. Now this topic has been discussed once or twice already from a "concerned" member on a couple other contests. Since you're relatively new I'll kind of recap the previous discussions.
A lot of postwork in an image is frowned upon, and the more you use the less likely you are to win. But some postwork is going to be used unless the rules state "no postwork", which in some contests we have done. I mean think about, you stated that some people used 2-3 draw programs and others besides Poser. If you didn't use at least 2 other programs you're going to have to find and download every texture you use in the image as well as every prop or piece of scenery. Most people enjoy and prefer to make their own textures and props. Hell we've had one contest a long time ago where the final image had to be rendered in Vue.
Each contest is and will be a little different, and may have different rules and guidlines, if you don't like them don't enter, no ones holding a gun to anyones head making them submit an entry, this is supposed to be for enjoyment.
So before this thread gets out of hand and someone says something that we may all regret I suggest that BillyBob lock it. So everyone relax, go have a drink, and move on.

Im sorry for all that trouble my pic (3rd place) made - reading the rules many of you did it without postwork - knowing that their works could make much better ranks with a little brush-up. I didnt invest much time in postwork although the effects are heavy. I think its fair to contact the moderator to take it out of the contest and give the prize to the next contestant.

Congrats to the winners, they were really good entries... I actually liked the 3rd place one the best myself...After entering and losing lots and lots of contests you just have to do it for the fun of it, because judging is subjective and there is no way to circumvent it..Nuff said... I always like the Animotions (and 3dcc) contests the best because they are always entertaining (The Big Head/Little body contest.. ) and challenging to do... But if we keep B'n & M'n about the judging each time they might not want to have them anymore, they are already too infrequent as it is (hint, hint)
