You kids have been leading sheltered lives. Click on the link below.

I don't recommend the compilation video that's currently available. It's a poorly edited piece of mish-mosh which was designed to cash in on Bruce Lee's death in 1973. I remember seeing it at a drive-in. |

There certainly have been some comics. I know that Now Comics produced some in the early '90s. Whether there were any earlier or later ones I don't know.
Interestingly, I have an original mint condition '60s Corgi Toys model of the Hornet's Black Beauty car. These are fetching a small fortune on eBay these days and I could do with the money but I just couldn't part with it- I loved the TV show as a kid far too much. |

Green Hornet was awesome. Cool thing was, he's supposed to be something like the great grandson of the Lone Ranger. _________________ Jim Harnock - ODS

Let's not forget Bruce Lee's early Western stardom either- surely Green Hornet deserves far more credit than it gets just for that.
Always made me laugh that Lee said he got the part because he was the only oriental actor that could correctly pronounce the name of the hero, Britt Reid.
Incidentally, the Green Hornet theme tune was used in the movie Kill Bill Vol. 1- Quarantino's in-jokes are clearly working overtime there (what with Uma's Lee-esque outfit and all) but it's nice to know he was a fan, too. |

| Darn you E-naut, you made me remember the day my Corgi Black Beauty car toy got wrecked. Whatever you do, don't shoot the missle launcher in the nose of the car unless you open up the plastic grill work piece on front. |

Glad you remember it, Hasdrubal. This has been re-issued by Corgi in the past few years (with crappy plastic wheels + tyres) and can be found really quite cheaply, especially on eBay. My tip, though, would be to get a gen-u-wine original '60's model- albeit bashed to death- from eBay for a few dollars and then spend a few dollars more (Agh! Spaghetti Westerns flash before my eyes!) buying a few restoration parts and a black rattle-can of paint. Hey Presto! You now have at least a talking point amongst TV-related die-cast collectors.
I've got stacks of this type of thing; I was a kid during the '70's; I am a kustomized car freak; I am into kitsch TV. You can see how that would all add up. I was overjoyed last year at being able to get the re-issued Corgi Monkeemobile (a better re-issue job than the Black Beauty, I might add). A kid at school had this when I was about 8 years old and was bashing it up. I tried to get it off him but he wouldn't have it so it's kind of nice to get it now.
BTW, I'm missing my Green Hornet missile so I'll have to get a replica soon. But I won't be firing it often and I'll be taking every precaution when I do. |

On a similar note, Corgi's '66 Batmobile is now one of the surest eBay moneyspinners. Practically everybody in the world had one or two as a kid and it's still the biggest seller Corgi ever had. You'd think this would be a prime candidate for a re-issue but there's some confusion over who owns the copyright to this- DC claims it's George Barris; he claims it's DC and Warner; etc. etc.
All I know is a boxed and mint early Corgi Batmobile fetches hundreds every time on eBay and that's largely because it doesn't look like being re-issued for a good long time. People who look on this whole issue- me included- think it's down to George Barris being awkward and evasive. Surely, Barris Kustoms built some groundbreaking vehicles in their day for which they have to be commended but this pantomime of the '66 Batmobile needs to be dealt with. |

Does any one make reproduction boxes for the Corgi Batmobile? My car still looks pretty good. I just wish I still had my Batboat and Black Beauty. I've still got the boat trailer without any tires.
If you didn't already know, Black Beauty came with a paper envelope of plastic whirly-copter "satellites" in addition to the front grill missles. The whirley-copters would launch if you opened the car trunk and pressed a lever on the side of the car.
The Corgi Batmobile also had a small envelope of plastic beads that could be fired from the chrome pipes on the back of the car.
I've thought about buying a reproduction or a fix-up car, but it would never be as satisfying as having the same one I had as a kid. Sometimes looking at that kind of stuff just makes me sad. |

Yes, there are repro boxes available. I can't think off the top of my head who makes them. There's almost certainly several people doing them and a bit of Googling should turn some up. I've seen then on eBay, too, so it shouldn't present much of a problem. They usually come with all the extra bits of paper and instruction sheets, too. Finding all the missiles and parts is no problem- I know that for the Batmobile and the Black Beauty you can buy almost every single part as a good quality repro except the body and baseplates themselves.
I also had a Batboat- the one with the flames, which is the good one. No more, though (grrr...).
Yes, I must get myself a repro box and all the plastic bits for the Black Beauty. I'd love to reproduce the whole display bit. |

The NOW Hornet titles - there were several - are better than one might expect. I don't know from toys, though (except that one's brother having a mint one in his garage is a bit unfair).
