I'm sure most of you have seen announcements about the release of Poser 7, but I wondered what everyone thought about it. Will it be worth the money? Is anyone pre-ordering so you can get the nifty additional content?

I will get it simply because I have to but the multiple undo looks interesting. So does the speedier renders if it deals with my old computer. The content might be cool since I like Bond and all that. Past that I am still waiting for really cool reasons.

At this stage, probably all of us that've been at this a few years have content out our wazoos. I doubt it's worth it for the new content alone.

Watch to see what they actually deliver in features, then decide.

Yes, that does mean "Don't be the first idiots on the pre-order train": wait til it's out and the reviews come in.

This may sound bad, but after Poser 5, I downloaded Poser 6, played with it a few months and once I was happy enough to let it replace Poser Pro (which tells you what I thought of 5) then I went ahead and purchased for the tech support and to support the medium (mostly the latter). I tend to do that with a lot of my purchases over 20 bucks. I try to download it first and then if I like it, then I'll purchase it legally. There have been times when I did that, didn't use the product at all until a few months later (shoot one time I contacted the vendor and paid him via PayPal) but now 99% of the stuff in my Runtime is legal. I got rid of all the stuff I didn't purchase awhile back, but Poser 7...yup, I"ll watch the forums, listen to the gripes, download illegally, test it out, then buy if I think it's worth it.

I wish they would do a trial version so I wouldn't feel so dirty.

I finally took a look at the page showing the new features. Here's a link you can click on.

http://www.contentparadise.com/us/user/static.php?name=poser_7

I'm not impressed with what I read or see. Their idea of marketing with so little information or pictures is piss poor. It sounds like there will be some improvements in the Firefly render engine which will make it faster, but it was never a great feature to begin with.

I have less trust Curious Labs will keep good features from previous editions after they butchered the materials menu in Poser 5. I'd be willing to bet they've screwed up the animation menus so you can only use the new canned layered animation poses. The new animation menu will probably not be as useful or easy to customize unless you're a newbee and don't know the difference. I question the value of adding a feature that only works with a few new figures. Selling canned animation motion files will probably be the next fad method of selling people crap they don't need.

I would feel more secure in buying Poser 7, if they weren't releasing it so soon after Poser 6. I would rather read they've fixed unresolved issues that weren't addressed in Poser 6. In particular, the capability of disabling the feature which creates a new geometry file everytime you save a custom figure to the library should be fixed. It causes too many problems with custom built figures in both P-5, and P-6. Poser 4 is still superior for making your own custom figures, but I guess they don't make as much cash when people can do that.

The only reason I'm getting it is for speed it will take advantage of my multi thread processors giving me 4X the speed. But I bet It won't be that good, we'll see

I pre-ordered it for the multi undo the lip sync and the unified poses the new characters is a cool plus but i am sure they will be added you will be able to buy the stuff later on the extra stuff like 6 months free content paridise club.
I never messed with the animation aspect of poser before so i am sure it wont matter to me how it is set up. If i like the figures i will export to lightwave rig and animate there.

I do most of my renders in Bryce, so Poser 7's supposed speed up (They have said this with every new version and it has yet to appear) makes no difference to me.
Lip Synch means squat, since I doubt it can be any better than DAZ's current version. And if it's as short in quality as the Animation room has always been, then a real waste of time.
The extra content might be cool, but I have barely spent more than a months worth of my time with Poser 6 content, I doubt Iwill use Poser 7's any more often.
New animation tools mean little, since I seldom use Poser for my animations, prefering to use more robust applications.
Ive yet to see a figure they have developed that had the clean look and ease of texturing that DAZ's Millenium family currently has, and now with V4 coming shortly, M4 wont be far behind, I doubt the new characters will stand up in comparison. Just look at Poser 6 characters. They have terrible joint movements, and if you put them in any extreme bendable poses (I dont mean unrealistic ones, more just anything other than standing still), you can see how sqaure the muscularture looks on them. Poser 7 is bound to be not much more than an upgraded version of 6 in my opinion.
The only thing it has that has my attention is the multi undo, which is not worth the purchase. I tend to save a lot, and do a lot of storyboarding before I even start my work, so its not a big deal.

Will I spend the money? Maybe 4-6 months after its come out, when I have seen what it can really do. But it has to be 1000% better than what we have now, or they wont win my spending dollars.

Wow, Aremis, don't sugarcoat your comments, tell us how you really feel.

It seems like the popular sentiment is to wait and see, which makes sense. Thanks to everyone for their opinions.

*shrug* Poserites wonder why all the poser related companies treat them like fools and take advantage of them mercilessly with new release hype...

... and then they rush out and pre-order the new releases as soon as the next wave of new release hype hits, even knowing the past histories and previous track records of releases in this industry.

YOU connect the dots, Billy-bob.
