Okay, friends and neighbors... Civil War has come to its end. I'm curious to hear opinions as to the series as a whole.

I have to say, although I liked the concept of the series, I found the ending to be rather a let-down. First of all, there were the persistent delays, which were annoying. Then there was the end of the series... which, although I rather enjoyed the Thor clone getting flattened by Herc, Captain America's decision to throw in the towel just didn't make that much sense to me. Not only could Cap have moved the battle away from civilians with a word from Cloak... but isn't Cap also supposed to be a master strategist/tactician/soldier? He apparently still believed that his cause was the right one to the end... so he couldn't see any way out of surrendering "for the common good"? I dunno...

And Captain America's assassination... that felt much more contrived to me than it really should have. As though someone at Marvel really, really wanted to shove some pathos that they felt was otherwise lacking into the story.

I don't know... there were some good parts of the storyline: Spider-Man's crisis of conscience, the Runaways/Young Avengers crossover, the fracture in the Fantastic Four, and the She-Hulk issues were entertaining and thoughtful at the same time. But the end of the event just left me with a slightly bad taste in my mouth.

What did other folks think?[/b][/i]

I agree. The "OTHER" Marvel event storylines worked better for me.
Annihilation, Planet Hulk were WAAAY better and I suspect it is because they were planned and plotted and in place, whereas CIVIL WAR was a thrown together mess.

I have to confess i didn't read this storyline
and have no intentions to do so.
that being said one thing to remember is that comics have always reflected society.
Killing Captain America was a political statement
to the U.S.A. goverment. That in a nut shell is what Civil War was about.
To end I won't buy another marvel comic until they bring Steve Rodgers Captain America back and not some clone or wanabe or alternate timeline crap.

I actually liked a lot of it. I never got into Annilation of Planet Hulk stuff but there was a lot of good stuff in Civil War. There was also a lot of crud. I do agree the end kind of was a big let down to me.
