Not having visited this site in a while, I'm astonished to see an ad for Poser 8. Have any of you crusty P-4 veterans tried it? Is it just more of the same tailored for more modern machines with a few new figure models tossed in?
Noobs need not respond. |

Don't have it, but I understand that P8 is basically to P4/5/6 what P6 was to p1. It's got a LOT of new features, new figures and other content, and a lot better rendering engine, better memory usage and so on. I'm still stuck running P6 until I get my credit card situation under control and get some money saved back for a better PC. Running a scene with two dressed V4s breaks my PC. |

| There is a demo that you can download to see what it is like. I am not fond of the new library (at all) and some other things but it does have potential. |

I've got this hot, new, screaming fast lap top, but I'm still running it on a dial-up connection. It may be a while before I can get the whole demo to load. It looks like Curious Labs did some strange things to the screen interface also. I don't think changing the library was really necessary. Even if you have a ton of downloaded files its probably best to rename files so they can be more easily grouped together. I tend to seek comfort in familiarity rather than prize innovation, unless it really IS the greatest thing since sliced bread.
For lack of anything else to ask, do the new characters have all of their naughty parts, and nicely done body and muscle morphs? I have to go now. My lap top battery is getting low. |

| To be honest, I ignored the figures, if there were any. Just because the track record hasn't been great in my opinion. |

| Their track record with human figures is poor. I've only ever used P-6 Jessie on one render. I've never seen a need for James. Strangely I find myself using Curious Labs' cartoon figures more often than their people. Some of the toon figures are actually pretty good. Inspite of how disappointing the human figures and morph features are, at least they're not overly tailored to DAZ Studio. The awkwardness of Victoria 4's x,y,z scale dials on body parts being absent just plain sucks. I would think someone could make a better figure than that, excluding V2 and V3. Someone should have seen the train wreck coming from a mile away before V4 was released. |

| Their figures are great for characters or simply to add variety. If you are looking for "pretty"...stick with the millenium figures. Just be prepared to look fairly generic =) |

Once I found out that you can make the thumbnails bigger by default (not just when you click on one), I don't mind the new library. I do wish I could set it up in a landscape format like you can P7's because I have two monitors and you can see more things that way. Poser 8 renders a lot faster than P7 (and WAY faster than P6 or P5). I can't speak to the issues Windows users are having because I'm on a Mac. But Windows is an issue all by itself. _________________

Hi Diane
I'm curious about P-8's menu or menus for setting up an .avi (or .mov video clip). Is it set up so that there's a difference between, pre-render screen dimensions, still render dimensions, and video render dimension like P-6? If I wanted to render video at 300 dpi, and stills at a lower setting, would the menus allow it? It might seem to be strange to ask about, but I often render video to suite specific formats. |
