Okay, I just had to start a new topic after reading the last few in the Swimsuit topic.
If I had any concept of how to build a bloody webring, I think the topic would be a good one to have, to represent 3D comics that have strong female leads and aren't afraid to show it....
Just a thought... |

Leave off a 't' in front of your last word? (Grin!) Let's be a little sensible here, man. I don't mind proving that we have strong female leads... but let's also keep in mind that one of the ways we've considered doing that is by promoting them in large-scale pictorals featuring them in skimpy swimsuits. This would be... oh, what's the term?... uhm... EXPLOITATION.
Not that I'm against it, mind you. But if we're gonna ride both sides of the fence, let's call it what it is rather than couching it behind a facade of female character empowerment... that's like saying 'our women are patriotic... see? Her heaving, bountiful 38DD bosoms are covered by a pair of stars, and that's a stripe riding halfway up her ass!'
Just playing devil's advocate here.

While we all love them for their assets, the way we prefer to write them and protray them in our comics is more empowerment then skin. _________________ Dana Haywood

Like I said, I'm playing devil's advocate here.... I agree that we definitely don't portray these women in our comics like sex objects or veiled damsels in the tower (okay, most of the time we don't. I happen to like variations of the damsels in distress pics, especially featuring mad artists that like to preserve beauty in their own perverse, twisted manner, but I digress...) And I agree that thus far, none of the characters I've seen in our disparate books are flowers that will wilt at the first sign of danger.
Nor am I about to say that I don't like rendering flashes of skin or titilating tease shots for our characters. Even with some of the problems I had getting the poses right, I liked the end result of angelic cleavage and psionic curves from our thread. And I loved seeing everyone else's work, too.
But I do still stand by the assertion that showing our heroines' (or villainesses') strengths of character by posing them in revealing swimsuits has got to be at best a mixed message. ^_^ It's a bit like the data sheets on the back of the Playboy Centerfolds. Once you see gratuitous breassesses, the fact the model has read Tolstoy, Clarke, Dickens and Dostoyevsky sort of washes right out of your mind. Or it does mine, at any rate. _________________ "It is perfectly easy to be original by violating the laws of decency and the canons of good taste."

WAIT WAIT WAIT! Playboy centerfolds actually have the ability to read?! Well that blows my mind, wow, who knew?
I can see Argo's point about the fact that maybe we should possibly hold off for now on the webring deal. After all let the people get to know our girls, let us see the feedback, and who knows?
But it is a nice thought when it all comes down to it. |

Well.. since I been considered the devil since day one..
My thoughts on this matter is simple. The swimsuit collection and the calendar, and such is something seperate from our storytelling or promotion of comics. It was something we did for fun, and to prove just because they can rearrange any man's ass doesn't mean they can't pose in nice pictures.
In my mind, a web ring would only help us promote the comics, not the sexy portions of it, but the whole deal. _________________ Dana Haywood

See fellas? I told you he wouldn't notice if we screwed with his meds.
I'm with Argo on this. It's a fine line.
I've been thinking about it while working on adding a couple more pictures to the fray.
One of the reasons I thought PCats pics were so cool was that the added comic gave it a behind the scenes promotional look.
It's not about our hot babes. It's about how a group of artists are doing something (anything) other than NVIATWAS.
mercinary, eh?
What happened to Alan B's ring? Withered on the vine?
(and why don't he visit here for that matter?) |

*slaps head* I can't believe it..all that time I spent in Poser Newsgroup, and I didn't get that. OF course, I do understand the Naked Vicky in A Temple with a Sword.. in other words, a guarentee you get artist of the month and year at renderosity. Sorry, I won't do Naked Vicky anywhere near a temple with any sort of a sword.. imagine the insurance if they found out madison was handling a sharp object without some form of armor..sheesh! _________________ Dana Haywood

Thank God our killer elves are P4 femmes, then. ^_^
The NVIATWAS and the 'Goth' setup are two themes that are just way too tapped out, IMHO. Don't take that the wrong way, I like nudes and noir art as much as the next person, but every so often you gotsta offset.
That's one of the reasons I personally don't really mind the whole swimsuit bit all that much. Gives me a chance to do some themed work that's not just another take of what we're doing in the comics. _________________ "It is perfectly easy to be original by violating the laws of decency and the canons of good taste."
