Hi all,
Just started poking around while trying to find "others" like me and came to the realization that this website is full of 'em! Wow...I see some of the ol' timers like ma'self. (some older than others hehe..)
WOW JJE, your site is looking amazing! I'm so happy for ya! Looks like great things are going on over there at Hat Check Kelly!
Oh where are my manners? I'm PAN (short for PANdaRUS in case any of the new folk don't know me...I'm sorta like black mold. You wash and scrub me outta your tiles and I go away for a bit but soon before you know it I've taken up residence in your basement and I'm ordering Pizza's and hitting the order button on your cable box for pay-per-view )
Glad to see there's a forum geared just for us comic types. If there are any other old timers around please stop on in and give me an ol' hollar. I'd love ta 'ear from you all
('course if your a new timer your more than welcome to say hi to me - I likes making new friends)
If you want check out my comic:

I don't believe this! Federation-21 was one of the comics that inspired me, back in the good old days!...
Is it really back for good?...
I hope so |

Ariah81: Thanks for the kind words. You know it's interesting you should say that, I had stumbled across your comic one day while setting up stuff on Federation-21 for a new issue, and was pretty impressed by it. There was something about it that appealed to me. I like your style, it's very cool. The new pages you put up have a very "printed on paper" feel to them and that's great. Reminds me of a graphic novel like the kind I've seen in comic book stores.
As for being back for good, yes it's back haha...sorta never left, just wasn't able to update as often as I wanted. Personal tragedies in my life just made "being artistic" nearly impossible, add to that a year and a half of unemployment and wow was I ready for a vacation from it all...but I'm working again, and trying to make something of my comic that's more consistent this time. I redesigned my website a while back to reflect the change and I even opened up an online store to sorta help offset any potential costs of doing the whole "free comic" thing but sorta 'cause I was unemployed too...I just didn't feel right advertising it on the site (you know - "I'm broke send me money! Pleeease!") so that's mostly why I made the store really. I made a soundtrack for the comic, and sell shirts and other stuff too. (shameless self-plug) I've even got plans to take the comic to another level but I'm keeping that one quiet for now until I'm sure I can pull it off. It's gonna be pretty cool if I can pull it off (well I think at least). I'm probably going to upgrade the models in the comic too. I mean I've owned the Mil models for some time now and I've never even used them! I just recently worked in the Milman into the comic very briefly. Heck, Eve's just begging to be "upgraded" to Vicky status. (it's been in the works for a while...but I didn't want to shock the readers by having them see such a dramatic change in the main character from one issue to the next.
Oh jeez see what happens? You get me talking and I go on and on and on and on and on and..... _________________ PANdaRUS

Sorry to hear about the personal tragedies... I really hope it's better now.
As for upgrading - been there too! But it's a must right now, I guess. And it's fun to design Your old characters one more time. I couldn't decide at first, but eventually made up my mind.
Thanks for Your words! I'm glad You liked the new look, I guess it won't change for a while, now I found a style that suits me (grungy and dirty... oh, wait... eh, nevermind)
Make sure You post about Your updates to the forum! I don't want to miss them;) _________________ ----

Pan??
Hokey-smoke! How'd I miss this thread?
I heard you were dead.
Or was that Snake Pliskin?
No matter
Fed-21 2 looks awesome. I flipped through the first few pages before I realized I wanted to go back and read the whole thing from scratch.
The PDF archives are very nicely done by the way.
I'm heartened to see you back in it. Get to work on those upgrades. I'm doing the same thing myself. I've got Kelly now as a P4, V2 and V3.
I'd really like to see Eve upgraded.
I'll be looking forward to your updates.

Wow thanks for the positive feedback. Yea I was really happy to see Hat Check Kelly is still going strong. It seemed like many of the ol' comics just went underground for awhile, then suddenly started to resurface better than ever. (well at least from my point of view haha.)
Yea the rumors did go around that I was deceased, but like the mold theory above...I keep coming back
Btw - I'm really excited to see what your working on for the new novel. I caught the preview and it rocks. (A Zeppelin? AWESOME!)
Now I'm not sure what your exactly planning from your site so maybe I can ask ya here: Is that new issue ("Hat Check Kelly: Streets of Evangeline") going to be an actual book? If so that rocks! I've been working on some stuff behind the scenes that I'm planning on doing in that direction as well. (Shh! Our secret!) As a matter of fact I'm going to most likely be redoing the first few issues of the comic to make them look better whenever I get a chance.
What I'm planning for the book will be exclusive to the book (an alternate complete story so to speak only available in the book). The art will be pumped up and everything will be alot more polished (fingers crossed).
Wow...all we need now is for Tim (sacred truth) to drop by and we're on a roll 'round here! _________________ PANdaRUS

Just got finished checking out your site and all I can say is.....outstanding. I like it all from site design to the comic itself. I actually remember checking it out briefly a loooooong time ago before i finally got up off my laurels and decided to put my own series into gear. It's good to see the return of yours. It's become rare that you see an online 3d comic series retain not only longevity but quality. It's refreshing to have yours back which manages to pull off both with equal style and substance. Here's to many more from ya.

Hey thanks alot for those nice comments. I really appreciate it. I was commenting on the other post that I had just discovered your comic recently myself! I was flipping through the first and second one but I'm glad to see part three is up.
Looks like your taking on a grand scale project on your end with all those props and stuff...you must be exhausted but it's coming along great!
I'm thinking of really up'ing the backgrounds for the next issue. It's gonna be alot of work since I'm by myself and all but I'm gonna try. I've already started upgrading the models from P4 to Vicki and Steph and Mike and etc. (milpeople for short) Eve's coming out pretty cool. Should give the comic a nice edge. I've had all those models since they first came out and they just sat on my harddrive collecting dust! I never found a use for them in the comic cause I didn't want to shock people from one issue to the next. I was working the change into the story line believe it or not haha...but I may just go for it from one issue to the other...as long as they are recognizable it should be ok _________________ PANdaRUS

I say go for the update....Cynthia for sure is going to go through the Vicki 3 transformation and I'm debating about doing the same with Richard and Paige. Personally, I'm VERY intrigued to see what you could do with the upgraded characters, oh let the pixel perfection begin...hehehe _________________ Live Life Immortal

lol
Not only did HCK go underground, I did as well.
I wanted to see what would happen if I dedicated a 40+ hour work week for a year and a half on just my artwork.
As you read on my site the result, HCK:SoE, runs 216 pages and is totally finished. For everyone else it's my "next novel" for me it's my "last one".
The best feedback I've gotten so far has been it's "a bit hard to read". In other words I succeeded. They said the same about Joyce too, not that I'm comparing myself to him. But I am Irish so...
Despite what some publishers have said HCK:SoE will be printed someday. The problem here is compounded by the fact that I'm avoiding all comics companies altogether. (if that comment doesn't start a flame war, nothing will) Although it could eventually end up in their hands, I'm going to exhaust all other avenues first. Heck I could even print 1000 if I had 30K to toss at it. I'm also looking into selling first serial rights but those discussions are still in their infancy.
The Zep was just to get me in the mood, after pages 5-9 it never made another appearance much to my annoyance. I'm such a tease.
However there IS a next book; Hat Check Kelly: Only Memory Remains, a 100 page exercise in fixin' the things that bothered me in HCK:SoE. The scripts going through draft 2 as we speak so there's still a lot of work to do. All the sets are built. 90% of the action takes place in the inaugural run of The Atlantic Zephyr. Google "California Zephyr" to get some idea of what I built (inside and out). I'm also up-polying all the figures to the V/M 3 standard where applicable. Just watch, as soon as I go into production DAZ will release MilKids3.
The upgrade went fine for Kelly but is giving me fits for Nicky. I fear she's going to change drastically.
And pre-production is already underway for the novel that follows this one. The novel I say I cannot complete without a production staff. LOL
Wouldn't it be great it Ruth returned? |

Oh yes haha it would be great
Wow sounds like you've got your work cut out for you (or had it cut out for you? The comics are getting like reality tv: What you saw happen last night actually happened two years ago) with these issues you worked on (working on?)
If your interested in self publishing your issues....send me a private message. I'll point you in a direction or two that might be helpful. It's what I'm planning and it could help if you haven't thought of it. I've already started to upgrade the characters to the Mil people too. I've had them long enough I guess I should finally make use of them. Eve's coming along better than I thought. Shrike and Clayton should be interesting considering I've no clue where to start on those two haha. I was looking at some of the stuff at Daz and I feel WAY lost. So much Mil this and Year two that and CR2 whatcha-mi-code-its I can't tell what's going on anymore. INjections? PRFiZer? Quite honestly it's sorta pushing me away from the whole deal! Poser used to be about simplicity and now it seems that there's so much going on there it's very hard to sift through. Don't get me wrong I'm a big fan of variety...I loves me some variety...but it's starting to look like eBay over there! _________________ PANdaRUS
