The imaginations that project from far dimensions into comic pages have lately been reduced to potential storyboards for films or yet to be optioned merchandising mine shafts where arters and writists scrape for the gems that will begat our entertanglement.
The best comics display the acrobatics of the creative mind.
The reader will always enjoy witty and clever devices and
honest emotion related clearly. You can pour sincerity over some contrivances but that does not equal sophistication.
In the sixties I remember wondering why Marvel characters were so angst ridden then all of a sudden it spread to DC and later even Archie started getting real. Sure, it reflected realism but the cool idea farm was having a drought.
Invisibilty, xray eyes, dimensional travel and other mind opening sparks were abandoned. Comics became dutiful social dialogues, which was a bitter end to a fantastic era of whim and wonder.
The kaliedoscopic echoes still linger but at most they embellish the coffins of great yonders. The medium must retain blankness
in order to recieve the signals without distortion, like water that is all the better as it is tasteless. So we have wistful and swirling surfaces, changing rapidly. The struggle is for a settling that may bring a flat and more accurate reflection so that the medium itself is not so evident, only a vehicle to the ideas .
The busy panels and self-concsious work I have seen reminds me of all the girls at the 7th grade dance who dance stiffly, looking down at their own body for fear of missing a step.
This is not true of ALL the mighty maestros who scribble profoundly day in and day out . Some have been around and ARE confident and DO expound the myriad realms. They are the fruit amongst tangled searching branches. Let our roots grow right and wrong with branches short and long so that these jeweled fruits will be :hathat17: nested there and quench our yearnings. Did I say that out loud?

Did Jack Kirby do LSD? His work changed dramatically in the 60's. What happened?
