Let me start off by saying that I am (but that's becoming was) a big fan of Jessica Alba in James Cameron's Dark Angel, in spite of all it's flaws was my all time favorote TV show.
But her in the role of Sue Storm just takes a pea on the character. I thought the romors of Jessica Simplson doing the part were bad, but at least she has the right look.
The rest of the cast seems equally wrong. The only one who MIGHT work is Chiklas as Ben Grim, and that's only becuase I expect him to only be a voice and the Thing to be CG.
Even though I was never a huge fan of the FF, this pisses me off.

She is only one of the actress' int he running but I do agree that it is a bad choice. The other characters seem to be okay from what little I know of them but I only know Chiklis from anything. He has the right attitude and hopefully they can make him bigger pre rock-head and then have CG take over.
Well, look how well it worked for "Wild Wild West".
In all seriousness, I think there are times when changes in the character's nationality and background can work, but it has to be a case by case kind of thing - it needs to work in the context of the setting and story, not because [insert actor here] is a big name and SHOULD sell more tickets. For example, I really wanted to see what Tim Burton had in mind for Harvey Dent when they cast Billy Dee Williams in the role (but that got nixxed ) I think that could have worked. This one... not so sure. _________________ "Flash, quit heckling the supervillain!" - Green Lantern

Please excuse my rant in advance....I spilled a bit OT:
Of course changing ethnicity etc of long-standing characters is okay.....we call it "artistic interpretation", and none but the evil Republicans (as propaganda would suggest) want to put a stop to that. However, it IS annoying as Hell (if Hell could be diminished to a mere annoyance)! Consider the marginal example: in "Smallville", Lana Lang (All-American redheaded girl nextdoor) is portrayed by Kristen Kreuk, neither American nor redheaded. I suppose we should be lucky she's a she. And Pete Ross is a black dude. No big deal in either case, but not what we are used to.
But keep in mind that the lifelong readers of "funny books" (Gak!) will nigh always take a backseat when transferring a 'property' to television or film is concerned. Isn't it amazing that the people who fed the success of a 'property' are dismissed when it hits mainstream ("funnybooks" being a backwater trickle)??? In all likelihood, a good portion of us would be displeased no matter what. Nonetheless, television and film transfers have never been taken seriousy as canon by true fans. They are largely Elseworlds/What If variations. Since when did The Joker kill Bruce Wayne's parents? Since never!
And on top of that, when Marvel and DC retrofit the histories of their characters with the frequency of the seasons, who can say what is what anymore? I grant you, change can be refreshing. But when there are umpteen Spider-man titles, X-Men titles, Batman, Superman, etc etc etc....they are 'refreshing' themselves out of control. I stopped buying comics yeeeears ago because I couldn't afford to buy 50 titles a month at steadily increasing prices, with crossovers, bi-weekly Summer versions, first issues with multiple covers, etc ad absurdum. Aaargh!........huff puff.....huh, where am I? Oh......right. Fantastic Four: The Movie. I'd kinda like to see Drew Barrymore as Sue Storm. She knocks my socks off

That all being said, Jessica Alba might look hot if they made some nudie or kinky heroine peril scenes. ....In which case I probably wouldn't care if the movie was about the Fantastic Four.

Exactly. So it let's her to run around semi naked for 90 minutes and call it the Funtastic Two.
Although she not nearly as hot when she "blonded".

Why you guys think that they shouldn't make changes to better suit the movie?
You guys saw X-MEN?
i ask,if they didn't change their costumes i think that the movie never would look cool.
Why? Because WOLVERINE running around with he's wellow spandex would make everybody laugh.
It wouldn't be a action/superhero movie,it would be a comedy/superhero movie

Key word there is "better".
I've seen just about every inch of Ms. Alba and watched every film she's ever made. She's not an actress SO incredibly talented and dedicated that she brings a role to life. Her last performance in "Honey" was simply dreadful.
Name factor?
Outside the Dark Angel Clicqe, she's hardly an "A" lister. "Honey" only did what small box office it did at all because there was a bunch of Rapper's in the movie and the all the hoodlums and thugs went to see "they're boyz" say the 2 lines of dialogue they had. That and NOTHING ELSE OPENED THAT WEEKEND! The movie had absolutly no legs.
I'm a fan of both her, and the Fantastic Four. This ticket was SOLD until I started hearing the casting and production decisions.
She looks tottally WRONG for the part, she not the best actress even among those on the short list, and she's not really going to fill any seats, so what other saving grace is there? What reason is there to cast SO against type??
ANSWER: She a hottie the Hoodlum director wants hit on.
How does that "better suit the movie"?

We haven't even gotten to costuming. At least all the casting of X-Men was done with some respect for the characters they were portraying.
We're not talking costume's here yet.
Ok... I bitched a little about Storm. Hallie Berry is another beautiful women, but personally, I don't think she was African enough, Still... they didn't cast a white girl (Mostly)!!!
Hugh Jackman is 6'2" instead of the 5'4" that Logan is supposed to be, but he SO nailed the part.
Famke Jansen is a little long in the tooth for Jean Grey, but again she CAN act and as long as she doesn't start to show her age she should be fine.
Those were the only really questionable choices in casting X-Men.
X-men was "Better" because it stayed true to the characters.

Which is exacly what the producer and director have stated they doing to the FF. "A comedy/superhero movie."
Is that the way you invisioned the FF?
Even the Corman version, as bad as it was, tried to stay true to the characters and story.

I have to agree with (outofmyminds) comments. Most comic related movies have used "artistic license" to the fullest extent, either to change storyline or characters, pretty drastically in some cases. For the most part it works, Prime example - Webshooters...being an old school Spidey fan, when I first heard this (And I'm probably not the only one) I was like WHOA…no way…Pete's a closet super genius…come on…stop screwin' with me. But when I saw the movie…it didn't seem as bad. They also updated his method of "wall-crawling" from the original "static cling" to the micro-hair mutation. I must say it made more sense to me in the long run.
Not ALL comic movies are going to have the success like Xmen, Spiderman or Batman (the 1st one) (IMO) these movies did everything the right way - marketing, (A/B) list stars… they all had a good "hook" so to speak. Other like Daredevil, The Hulk and Punisher - seemed somewhat cheesy to me for some reason. I didn't make an effort to go out and see them. Figured I'll just wait for the DVD release.
If FF4 turns out to be some kind of comedy…it would really make a mockery of a great comic. Sound to me likes it going to be rather disappointing! Once the official trailer is released, I guess we'll all get a better idea.
