Yeah, we started discussing this a few days ago, in the Grayson thread. Personally, I loved World's Finest. I thought it was better than both Grayson and Dead End.

I rank it behind both of them, personally. All three are extremely impressive, but DEAD END is great for its cool factor and technical proficiency. GRAYSON suffers from uneven acting and some cheesy costumes, but I thought it had genuine emotional impact (I even wrote the director a letter of congratulations -- I never do stuff like that -- and he very kindly replied). Even after multiple viewings, it still gives me chills.
Watching the behind-the-scenes video gave me even more appreciation for the level of technical ingenuity and enthusiasm these guys had for the project (even if their ultimate goal of realizing as a feature film is extremely unlikely, which they at least cop to -- unlike the irritating "Secret Spider-Man" nerds whose astonishing arrogance can be viewed for all the world to see here).
In comparison, WORLD'S FINEST has an almost "phoned-in" quality, as if Collora was relying on his professional-level crew, $$$ and reputation as "that BATMAN: DEAD END" guy" to carry things. It also come off a bit stilted visually, which was surprising -- Collora recreated the look and feel of Alex Ross's work brilliantly in DEAD END (when I first saw a still from it I thought it was a Ross painting), but his attempts to duplicate them here feel awfully forced. Compare WF's CGI "Supes lifts a jeep" shot to the similar shot in GRAYSON, ingeniously achieved in-camera. And WF's Superman is almost terminally dorky (though I thought he made a nice Clark Kent, weirdly), particularly in comparison to GRAYSON's rougher, more KINGDOM COME-styled Kryptonian.
I don't hate it by any stretch, but I was expecting more. [/url]

It's actually kind of funny, because I thought Superman looked more like Superman in WF than Grayson -- I thought Grayson's Superman looked and acted too much like a Terminator robot.
Personally I found Grayson's emotion too forced. Felt more to me like ol' Dick was constipated rather than driven to take up where Batman left off. I just felt Grayson tried to do far too much and only managed to half of it really well. Of course, I feel that way about 75% of the real movies I see, too _________________ Jim Harnock - ODS
