From Cinescape.com:

"It appears that at least one of the movies from the forthcoming STAR WARS TRILOGY (SWT) DVD set has been leaked to the internet. A ultra high quality divx copy of RETURN OF THE JEDI, featuring new effects and inclusions not seen in any prior released versions of the movie, has been placed online. So far no sightings of the SWT versions of A NEW HOPE or THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK have been reported online.

Several message forums of video and STAR WARS websites have confirmed that Sebastian Shaw has been removed from the "ghost trio" at the end of JEDI and replaced by Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker. As well, a scene showing the citizens of Naboo, consisting of both humans and Gungans, celebrating the death of the Emperor has been included in the montage of locations after the destruction of the second Death Star."

Seriously, at this point, can any of this truly be a surprise.

I've seen the footage of the replaced Anakin and it looks ridiculous.

George still owes many apologies for the Howard the Duck script , and many more for every scene with Jar-Jar Binks.

I don't think he could top those two ideas for being pure crap- although he could hire Joel Schumacher if he was going for the honor of the ultimate turd. How does this sound for a title? "Revenge of the Cloned Jedi Bat-Duck Meets Ishtar".

Warren Beatty would snap up the lead role in a heart beat.

Good thing you guys haven't seen the latest revised version of the scene. I dosn't know about you, but it's just too radical a change for my tastes.

It seems like most of the movies being made are for selling action figures, instead of cinematic drama or story telling.

I agree with Hasdrubal. All the newer movies have changed the basic characters till they are no longer like what we used to read in the comics. I have noticed even some of the newer comics are changing and going away from a comic style book to a movie on paper. Whatever happen to the old classic style of hero's. Although the spiderman movies are good I wish they would have left it so that he used web shooters instead of them coming right from his arm.

the new trilogy is rubbish. Lucas is too busy making money to worry about making good movies...

The basic story premises for Episodes 1 & 2 are sound, but there are four really dumb things that should have never made the the final drafts of each script.

1)Obviously Jar-Jar Binks and the other toonish acting Gungan characters needed to go. If the story needed humor, C3PO should have been intoduced earlier.

2)The mystery of "The Force" was destroyed by making it measurable in "Miti-chlorins".

3)Making Anarkin an eight year old kid in "Episode 1" was really stupid. Short Round, the child character in "Indianna Jones and the Temple of Doom" had already proven child adventure characters to be unpopular years before. George didn't learn anything.

4)In "Episode 2" the age difference between Anarkin and the Princess makes the love story far less credible.

At this point, the story needs a respirator worse than Darth Vader. All the same, I will still try to keep an open mind about the next movie. If Anarkin starts acting completely evil, and kills all the Gungans, there may be something worth the ticket price to see.

Just found this thread, and wow, there is so much I could add to it about how lucas is pissing people off. Especially after The Phantom Plotline and Attack Of The Clowns...but I could just as well sum it up with this one quote inspired by the special editions of the orriginal movie:

"Greedo did NOT shoot first!"

Really, I grew up on the orriginal trilogy and loved it, and lucas pulled the sci-fi equivallent of a Carl Macek...only diference is, it was actually his plot he butchered just to increase revenue...

Rodenberry, why did you forsake us in our time of need?! All the good sci-fi storylines are going right down the craper.

I agree about the bad choices with the new trilogy. What a squandered opportunity to really show the transformation of Anakin the Jedi kid to Darth Vader the dark lord.

Ewin McGregor was perfect for Obi Wan, though. He's about the only character in the new trilogy I care anything about.

In the last couple days I've watched my VHS tapes of the original 3 movies again. The content of the movies hasn't changed, but my reaction to Luke's character has changed.

When I first saw the original movies at the theater, Luke was a few years older than me. I didn't preceive him as the immature boy who both seeks and ignores Yoda's wisdom to save his friends, based on cloudy precognitive visions.

Now that I'm older, I view Luke as rash and undisiplined rather than heroic. Episodes 1 and 2 show that Luke's skills were far below the old Jedi Knights of the Republic period.

I don't think Lucas intended for Luke's Jedi skills to look so poor after Episode 1. Master Qui-Gon, young Obi-Wan, and Ararkin are all much more skilled and powerful than Luke. As a result, Luke seems even less prepared to have fought Vader in "The Empire Strikes Back".

Hasdrubal, I agree that 1 and 2 make Luke look less skilled, but that may, in fact, be the point. After all, the Jedis we've seen in 1 and 2 had the entire Jedi infrastructure behind them and we saw in the scene where Obi Wan is looking for Kamino that Jedi training begins at a very young age.

It seems the older I get, the less I identify with Luke (or Anakin). To some degree I now sympathise with Vader when he offers Luke the opportunity to rule the galaxy as father and son. We know Vader has some good left in him, and would be a more just ruler than the Emperor who he secretly hates and intends to betray at the first real opportunity.

We know that Vader is corrupt and evil, but most of the people he kills are petty arrogant Imperial officers who fear and dispise him. They are the kind of officers who would do any evil if given nothing more than their next promotion. (I've known a few like that.) Would it be evil to kill such petty evil characters when you can read their minds? The truth may depend on one's point of view. It would certainly be evil, if one were to take pleasure in killing. Vader doesn't take pleasure in killing. He's cold to any form of pleasure. Taking pleasure in evil may be the root of the "Dark Side" more than evil deeds themselves. After all, Obi-Wan has no trouble telling lies that lead Luke to danger and possible death. Ethically deception may be acceptable to Obi-Wan on this basis.

The other thing that's interesting about Vader in the first 3 movies was his distain for the Death Star as a weapon. To paraphrase, "It's power is insignificant before the might of the Force." The Death Star is a weapon of mass genocide, yet Vader knows the Force to be more powerful than politically clumsy murderous brute force. I can't really determine if the distain for a genocidal weapon might be based on the last ounce of mercy left in him, or contempt for Governor Tarkin and the Emperor that he must cautiously hide.
