Just finished reading GL: Rebirth #3 and I have to say that the story has continued to be very strong. The art is fantastic, of course -- VanSciver is right up there with Cassaday as my favourite artists. But even better, there's actually a GOOD explanation for why Hal Jordan suddenly did a 180 to become a villain -- it's all tied in with the history of the GLs and all that. Nowhere near as convenient or cheesy and explanation as I was expecting. And the very last page certainly makes things... interesting, to say the least. Can't wait to see how they explain THAT one next month... _________________ Jim Harnock - ODS

I havent added much conversation to the return of Hal Jordan, since Im pretty biased - Hal has always been my favorite DCU character.
On Thursday I picked up the final issue of 'Rebirth'.
Now, I agree that the series did have an "Onslaught" feel to it - But there was so much demand from the fans to bring Hal back as the one and only original GL, that they needed a way to clear his name, to explain what happened to him, to explain the grey hair, and to explain why Kyle's ring had no Yellow weakness.
Is it a cop-out or taking the easy way out of things? Of course it is. But so was the Death of Superman - Knighfall series - Onslaught - and even the CLone Saga from the ten million Spidey titles at the time.
But was Rebirth an entertaining, and well thought out idea? I would have to say yes.
Bringing back John Stewart sometime ago as a GL was ok - I was never a fan of him - But it made sense for continuity, since he's in the JL & JLI animated shows.
Kyle, well, I wont knock him. They tried hard with him, but he never caught on the way any of the past GL's did.
Bringing back Kilowog was a great move. The Corps was always about diverse personalities and races. To rebuild a corps with only humans would have been ridiculous.
And Kilowog just rocks, plain and simple.
And finally, putting Guy back into the green leather's was a master stroke. Some people are on the fence about so many characters in the DCU - But with Guy - It was black and white. You either liked him or hated him. Personally, I liked him.
All in all, they brought the guys back together - A smooth move for the DC team.
And without spoiling it - I loved how they had Hal explain each personality of the characters by his side - Exlaining how they were as a GL, which explained why each GL always was drawn so differently - Guy always having his green constructs looking like flames are leaping off them, John's always looked so mechanical, Hal's always looking so basic and simple.
All in all - for the first time in 17 years, I now have a subscription to the new GL series.
And I cant wait! _________________ =============================
