Come one come all to the first official meeting of the Animotions Round Table. Every two weeks we'll have a new discussion topic for everyone to participate in ranging from games, comics to who knows...maybe our favorite recipes.
The first topic is "Inspiration/Admiration". Who in the Animotions community inspires you the most or who do you admire the most and why, and no you can't choose yourself (as much as we would all like to). Could it be the quality of their work, the freebies they contribute, all around nice person, or do they just smell good, voice your thoughts today! So grab a bag a cheetos, your favorite beverage and pull up a chair.
Alright I'll go first to get this little ball rolling....For me personally I would have to say my biggest inspiration would be Sturkwurk. Really for a number of reasons, yeah we're basically the same age, was kinda in the same profession at one time, but what got me the most was our little contest back in the old 3D-CC days to see who could put out the most freebie files and which figures we could get done before the other. Due to some personal issues I had to submit to the master. Another reason would be his diversity, not only does he do comic renders but also does some fantasy and sci-fi, something I hope to delve into here in the future.
Now granted we're not in as close contact as what we once were but I still feel he's my largest inspiration at the moment for the reasons stated above, and oh yeah...he's a nice guy...of course there are a couple that are pulling close with some of their renders and/or clothing they've done...
ok...who's next! _________________ I can't help it I'm a smartass...it's the only thing that gets me through the day

All right, I'll go.
I will also have to say Sturkwurk is right up there. He's one of the major reasons I got into this type of stuff -- Poser heroics, I mean -- after seeing some of his work and reading some of his tutorials. This was probably within days of installing Poser for the first time. More than his artwork, which of course, is pretty damn cool in itself, I'd say the main reason I'd name him as an inspiration was his willingness to help and answer god knows how many of my stupid questions before I knew what I was doing. I still remember how proud I was when he asked my permission to use one of my textures on his Jenny Sparks figure way back in his "Posette Period."
I'd also have to give a shout out to my buddy Aremis for this. Even though he ventures over to the world of Spidey far too often, he somehow even manages to make crappy Marvel heroes look good and he's never reluctant to share his stuff. He's also never been reluctant to lend me a hand when I've needed it. Plus, he's Canadian and has no love for the Leafs. _________________ Jim Harnock - ODS

Gotta say Sturkwurk as well ... Man, I have no clue where he finds all of the time he has to render but that alone is amazing (and they are all cool renders too). But he also makes cool stuff, posts cool freebies, helps people and is generally a standup and cool guy.
Way back in the day with the contests at the old old 3DCC he and I used to go at it with images and I used to get annoyed with him, just cause they were so good and he always seemed to have a limitless supply of awesome renders and I could barely manage time for one.
I guess it's my turn. Although I don't know these people personally, I am a big fan of their work. First like everyone else, Sturkwurk. I ran across some of his art in 97 and been a fan since.
Thanks to Aremis/Sharby/Maximum Impact, my son wants to play with poser because of there fantastic Spiderman and company freebies. I would love to say I am a huge fan of the web slinger, but I'm not. But I can't help but to show my son an image posted by these gentlemen whenever they are posted.
And last but not least, I look forward to seeing whenever this guy post a new image rather its pencils or Poser. Hell, I like seeing is Product Showcases. OrcaDesign Studio. I remember about two year ago you did an image of Martian Manhunter in poser, then a couple of weeks later you posted pencil work of the Smallville cast and I knew then, it cool to be good at poser, but when you master your pencil then you have something to show.

Personally I give it to weirdass.
They have a tight self-consistent world view that exudes from every image. They have an uncompromising style that flies in the face of all the plastic people images that get generated
And there are a lot of images.
A lot
StarryOnes ran over two years with nary a glitch and not a moment of wasted time in the story line.
That much work, with that much attention to detail, and respect for the reader's intelligence makes them authentic artists and one of the cornerstones of what this community is all about.
What can I say? Project Firegun's simply one of the more innovative ongoing projects I've seen in a long time online. And if I don't speak up for Lund, Frank will hurt me.
*shrug* There's a lot more to online graphics than Poser: it is too easy to tunnel vision to just the poser artists, and shortchange both ourselves and the other aspects and creators in this craft. _________________ "I'd add a legitimate comment here, but that would mean reading everything, which I have no patience for." - Slynky

It's funny; when I tried to think of one person who inspired me or who I admired, I couldn't really think of one person. The main core group of people (Sturkwurk, ODS, Aremis, Sharby, theImmortal) of Animotions were really the reason that I've stuck with Poser over the years. They've always been helpful, supportive, encouraging, and friendly. (Yet another shameless plug for the Animo community. Hey, this should be our slogan--Come to Animotions; We're not jackasses!)
Having said that, there are a few Animo artists that never fail to make me say "Damn, that is GOOD" -- Max Impact (even though we never see him around here any more), Golden Odyssey (some truly phenomenal fantasy stuff), and Junfan (new around here, but some really sweeeeet images).
I agree with IB. There's a big old world of artists out there who inspire. Recently, I bought the book The Great American Pin-Up, which has an extensive gallery of pin-up style art from over the years. We look back now at that art as kind of cheesy (and way too predominant among Poser images), but there was real craftsmanship in a lot of that work.

Like BillyBob, I don't think I have one inspiration in my Poser art. I guess the closest person would be RBTWiz. Back when I was barely blundering through Poser 3 (I think), I saw one of his pictures on the Image of the Day on the Fractal Design/Metacreations site (gives you an idea how long ago this was). I followed the weblink back to his site and later to the PoserForum where suddenly there were all these people doing amazing work that I didn't even know was possible with the program. It made me push myself farther in what I was doing with Poser and my artwork in general. I also started learning tons of stuff on how to do things.
George Deep also deserves a mention. Not only has he produced some very impressive artwork, he was doing an online classroom at RDNA at one point which was higly informative and lead to what I consider a breakthrough point for me in my art.
I didn't discover 3DCC until just before it shut down and before I ended up taking a unschedule year off from Poser, so I didn't get much chance to enjoy the talent here until this year. (okay, I'm a late bloomer). Gotta say between you guys and another board I hang out on, I'm getting plenty of reasons to keep pushing myself forward. _________________ "Flash, quit heckling the supervillain!" - Green Lantern

Good mention, GlitchGirl. Both George Deep and Ken Seisemore [FastTraxx] should get a listing here: both of them demonstrated early that it is possible to transition from poser/3d comics work on an amateur level to doing it professionally for the big companies.
They were both among the first people I'm aware of to make that transition.
I learned a *LOT* from FastTraxx over the course of a number of chat and Icq conversations. _________________ "I'd add a legitimate comment here, but that would mean reading everything, which I have no patience for." - Slynky
All 12 of you regulars inspire me. Now bend of so I can kiss all your arses.
Actually, If I had to pick some one to kiss up too, it's Diane for keeping this little niche open for us. I doubt this place really pays for itself even though it probably doesn't cost much to keep going.
Still... I think we should all give a round of applaudes to the boos lady for giving us geeks a place to hand our hats... cowls... helms, crowns, and associated fetish masks.
Nah, don't applaud - just buy stuff from the store. ;]
She'll *really* appreciate that. _________________ "I'd add a legitimate comment here, but that would mean reading everything, which I have no patience for." - Slynky

shucks guys. I'm just a hack, really... besides most of my recent stuff can't even be shown on this site, but you can find it at rotica.
I know I'm pretty bad about checking out the forums, but when I came across this thread... I was touched.
My insprirations in the early days were George Deep, Sharby, and Fasttraxx...
but within the current Animotions circles, I've gotta stick with Sharby, BLBarrett, Aremis, Remix006 (Gail) JoBrian, Dragon Girl, Jim "orca", Archangel Gabriel, GreekSuperman, lundqvist, eferrier, Marvel1, and I'm finally glad to see George Deep return too! That's just off the top of my head, there's much more... I'm so glad to see this site actually get so many image postings these days, it's fantastic!
Recent additions like Junfan are pretty spiff too, they'll be pushing us for the next year I hope.

I just ran across this topic and i have to say the first artist that inspired me is sergeantjack (renderosity) since he got me hooked on poser in the first place since then it has been a long list of artist Sturkwurk, MaximumImpact, theImmortal, DraX, BiilBob, GDeep,Sharby, ODS, kakota, Aremis, bbarrett, Corearts, Just to name a few. I am never surprised to see how they have helped someone figure out how to improve on modeling character design and such. Thanks to each and everyone here at animotions.

I'm going to continue the self-congratulation and name Sturkwurk, ODS, 3DGM and George Deep primarily. I came across the old 3DCC soon after I started using Poser and it was like "Eureka!! THIS is what you can do with this stuff!" My very first posted render was an X-Men image as part of Jim's "Fortes Fortuna" challenge: http://www.renderosity.com/viewed.ez?galleryid=56204&Start=6&Artist=WSPig&ByArtist=Yes
To this day I treasure the wealth of positive feedback and encouragement I received, and the generosity of all the members there. The wealth of free stuff enabled me to free my imagination, and the tutorials and feedback gave me the chance to learn and grow as an artist and a 3D user. Thanks to all you guys.

Tipping the hat to the regulars (do i sense a super hero team?) As many others have in the previous posts as well to our hostess who is no slouch of an artist herself. I also must say this . . .
ODS- Dude your work either digital or with a pencil is exactly the level I aspire to. Unfortunately my pencil skills blow goats but your work still keeps me thinking and moving.
Sturkwurk-The way i found this site was by finding your work listed elsewhere and from there inevitably to here.
This community is terribly supportive and even when things get catty no one seems to get truly tweaked. I could go on listing artists and tid bits about wh their work kept me moving and thinking for ages.
