Hi, everyone (if there IS anyone out there reading this: its seems to have died a little in my absence),
Apologies for the length of my disappearance, but the Real World (tm) has intruded on my life not once, not twice, but THREE times in the last six months. First, there was the birth of my second daughter, Nicola Sophie, on November 18th; then there was the small matter of a college project, which culminated in a live performance on December 3rd; and THEN I had to go into hospital for major abdominal surgery (an operation from which I am still, theoretically, recuperating)... so I haven't ben the most active member of anything, anywhere... I have, however, managed to find time to enter the latest competition here (my entry is titled 'Summoning').
News on my writing ideas... well, the horror anthology idea i had originally seems to have mutated in my head to become a more theatrical end-product (I woke up at 4.30 in the morning one night in the hospital and had to call for a nurse to get me pen and paper in case I lost the thread of my thoughts by breakfast!): I would apologise to Palmers for this, and for my silence, but he seems to have two projects on the go now, so good luck to him...
However... there has been a project in my head for almost twelve years now, which ocasionally gets pulled out, worked on a little, some notes, made, and then shelved again until it matures fully. Often, these moments of work are when an idea hits which seems to fit, but there's always been a piece or pieces missing - until now. I've just read something which somehow lit a candle under the story's ass and pulled the whole thing into focus. I now have (for me) a convincing character arc for the main protagonist, an interesting mentor type who helps and hinders him at various stages, and a potential enemy.
I'm looking for an artist/artists who are interested in illustrating a dark, film noir type tale with slight supernatural tones throughout - no fireball spells or anything like that, just... a hint of nasty stuff liberally sprinkled into the mix. If this has whetted your curiosity, then please, send me a pm and we'll see what we can do.
One other thing: a quick word on the way I work. I want to get the arc of the story tight first, with definite key characters in place, before I start scripting. I want to do this in collaboration with the artist, because I've found in the past that bouncing ideas off one another often leads to a more productive and pleasing end result.
