We're checking it out tomarrow. It sucks that our real lives are so bad we couldn't make this an event. To many people had jobs and responsibilities.

I hope it does well in the Box Office.

I was there last night - IT FRIGGIN' ROCKED!!!! The GF fell asleep throughout most of it - Said "I didnt realize this was a guy flick", and then I pointed out that the audience was filled with women who were hootin and hollerin, so thats no excuse.
Overall - This was one of a few flicks that stuck to the straight and narrow and did not disapoint.

As I said in the Sixus1 boards conversation about the flick, I have an entirely new opinion of Mickey Rourke now.

And really, is there anything better than hookers with machine guns?
:love7:

Heh...I agree...Rourke was a dead actor as far as Hollywood was concerned...Bit parts in bit movies became the name of his fame - But playing Marv, he was absolutely phenomenol. My girlfriend actually said his attitude made her think of me, in that he does whatever he has to for those he cares about.
They did Marv justice by bringing in Rourke.

And chciks with machine guns? WOOHOO!!!

But what made my girlfriend laugh was seeing the chick/prostitute that sold them out, played by the young actress from Gilmour Girls. She was shocked to see her, since she plays such a sweet girl on TV.

I think it's already my #3 favorite movie of all time.

It was perfect in almost every way. Some of the acting was a little stiff, but it just gave it that 1940's Film Nior flare that the original bulk captured.

I have to say, this is what you get when boot the Hollywood system out of the film business these days. A Masterpeice. I can't WAIT for the DVD and the commentary.

My clique of "Siskels" and "Eberts" that met up after the film were sitting around brainstorming about HOW BADLY this could have been done by some one like Joel Schoemacher or McG.

Any one know what this cost to make? I heard Rumors of $30-$40 mill which it chump change for a film of this quality.

I heard the cost to make was under 20 million, since the majority was spent on the 3D cities and props, more CGI in this movie than 99% of movies inthe past lol. But boy did they do it wonderfully.
Even shots of drivers, you could see they werent really moving, which is perfect for those 40's film noir look. Even when they showed distant shots of of convertibles, there was no movemement inside the vehicle, which is wonderful for the feel and look, as the old 80's movies couldnt afford to hire riggers or helicopters to capture overhead shots.

I would definetly put this in my top 5.

Yes, indeedy! Sin City is a no holds barred "comic book" through and through!! And it sure AIN'T for the squeamish!!! I was so excited to see Mickey Rourke in a major role again. If anyone doubts his acting ability, check out "Barfly" (basically a Charles Bukowski biopic IIRC). He went off the rails when he went into boxing, stating (I paraphrase) "Acting isn't a man's occupation". I assume he felt like a sissy pretending all the time. I'm glad he got over it. And i'm glad he put aside the pet chihuahua and the pseudo-sensitivity, and came back to being a marketable commodity. Otherwise, he seemed destined only for roles Joey Buttafucco turned down ;)

:D I seen it last night and all i can say is,....pretty good, i have no idea who the characters are, as I've never read the comic book.

Making it in black and white was a good move ( i wonder if it would have been as good in colour?) Micky Rourke was good in his part as was Bruce Willis, my GF kept on saying that I cast the women in the movie, ( she's a bit jealous) Babes with guns?? aren't they dangerous enough ??.

ok in a word, NO. if the movie had been in color then it would NOT have been sin city which is drawn in total black and white contrast, ALL the time. I totally reccomend you run down to Borders they are running buy two get one deal on graphic novels and they usually have sin city 1-4 on the shelf.

On the other hand, the advent of the occaisional bit of color was a totally effective film makng tool and Rodriguez is an effing genius. If you read up on this film, it really seems like a project that the actors enjoyed as all of them took serious pay cuts considering what they normally make and all of them took a chance of being black listed for working with Rodriguez who is now on the outs wiht his former Guild.

Actually, the original books did have elements of spot color. Like a particular blood splatter or the Yellow of "The Yellow Bastard".

And there was a LOT more color in the film than people seemed to have noticed. :)

But even when they did use color they muted it to barely noticable unless it was supposed to pop. That matched the feeling of the books style about as good as it could be done while still using live actors.

CAN NOT WAIT FOR THE DVD COMMENTARY!!!!!!

I don't know if anyone else noticed, but the scenes in the strip club were always in colour. Very muted, but the colour was there, up until Hartigan spots Roark, then the colour bleeds out except for you-know-who.
