Its been a long time since I bought a comic book and i don't know whats going on in the 'C' Book' field so forums like this help me a lot.
Being interested in art, ( I use to draw, although not professionally or as good as the people on this forum), I look at the work in the gallery and I feel like crying.
But instead I ask myself where do they get the art etc programmes to do this with? and how much do they cost?, maybe I'll send in an attempt at manipulation of my own to show you how bad I am.

Most of the stuff here is done with a program called Poser. You can get the latest version (Poser 6) from http://www.curiouslabs.com -- it's about $250 US. There is a free alternative called DAZ Studio, which can be downloaded from http://www.daz3d.com, where you can also get a bit of free content for it. However, my personal feeling is that DAZ Studio has yet to become a worthwhile piece of software. _________________ Jim Harnock - ODS

$250 BUCKS!!!!, SOMEBODY SHOOT ME, for that kind of money I can take a trip to Europe for a week. seriously it must be some piece of work for the price, but I'll stick to pencil and paper and my own cheap art programmes.

That's for the latest version of Poser, P4/Artist you can probably pick up cheaper. Then if you want to do any photo retouching or your own texture creation you need something like Photoshop ($700ish) again depending on the version, Paintshop has a freebie I believe, then there's also Corel Photopaint.
On top of that if you want any additional clothes/scenes and such that you can't find somewhere on the web for free you'll have to purchase them $5-$50 per item.
Then if you're not happy with the rendering in Poser or want to create your own models/props/etc. you can get another program for $250-$5,000, depending on how sophisticated you want to get.
Unfortunately this is not a cheap hobby, that's why you're constantly surfing to find freebies, to help compensate what you've already spent on the programs.

DAZ Studio might be a nice alternative for you if you're looking to get started for low cost.
It allows posing of figures, arranging of scenes, and rendering.
The beta was downloadable for free a little while ago, and may still be ( I haven't looked recently), and they had a very inexpensive (or free... I forget) content pack to get you started with all sorts of figures and props.
