I've posted this request else where but as of now no other 3d community has been much help. I am looking for the WarHammer 40k poser models created by both Obiwan and Ghost, about two or three years ago. I already have Obiwan's permission for his files to be host on Kirisute's website The Forge. Ghost seems to have dissappeared. If anyone has these files and is willing to upload them here or on their own site. Please let me know, these are great models and deserve to be shared. If you dont believe me go to the Forge and check out the SpaceMarines on the special page, they're available for download and are fanatastic. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Heya, rsg. Good to see you. ;]

I followed the discussion on your thread at Renderosity [I think it was Rendo]. I'm afraid that I can't be much help: I did some Google and Alltheweb searches of my own, and couldn't come up with any leads that you don't seem to already have tried.

However... I recall that the 3D-CC had a large collection of Warhammer 40k stuff. Posibly one of the old 3DCC mods might have a lead for you.

Here's a link to the Ghost site.

Some of the links still worked the last time I checked a long time ago.

I believe I have all the 40K stuff on disk that the 3DCC had. I'll have to take a look.

I'll do some checking to see what files, if any, that I have. The big thing is making sure of the right to redistribute though.

I have contacted Obiwan and he says he will put most of his stuff on Kirisute's webpage himself. I have made every effort to contact Ghost, the other artist who made 40k models during that period. I emailed him and sent an IM through Renderosity three days ago. There has been no response. These files were freebies given away on Renderosity and, on what is left of Ghost's site he obviously intends for people to still be able to get them. Only that page no longer exists, we would in a way be honoring his wishes by making them available to people again. My logic may be flawed, if so please tell me. But, I don't think he'd just want them sitting in limbo.
He appears to be MIA and, if he shows back up and has a problem which I doubt as long as he get credit for creating the models and no one modifies them in anyway we should be fine. But, if he does have a problem they can always be pulled down. Please correct me if my logic is wrong.
I will admit, everyone getting them is merely a byproduct. I would really like to get my hands on those models and if that means the whole get again get them so be it. I've asked the same question here, on Renderosity and Runtime DNA. So far, one person has them and tried to give them to me but now he too is MIA. This is something I would like to see happen because I have seen the audience and know it is there. People only have to have access to them and maybe this genre will begin again. Anyway, thanks for the help. I appreciate whatever you can do.

All these models have been sent to Vanishing Point, now all we have to do is wait. Thanks for all the help.

The other thing that you didn't think of was when you ask if I can post them here. If the rights to distribution have not been secured then Animotions has every right to deny even having a link on their site to the files as well as any other site such as ActionBabeCentral where my files are hosted. Never assume that the author of the file will be OK with it as long as they are credited. I'll get back to you about the files.

sorry bout that, meant no offense or anything. Im not a modeler or anything like that I only play around with Poser. I just thought it would be okay, what if the artist can not be found? Or has stoped working on stuff all together? What happens to his/her old work then? It shouldn't dissappear never to be seen or used again, that is against the nature of art. I mean no disrespect to anyone, an artist should always be given credit for their work. I apologize if I've offended anyone, that was not my intent. I would only like to get those things and have other people be able to get them as well. If that is impossible, then it is a true shame and a true loss. Thank you for responding and everything else you're doing.

In ways you're both right, no we can't host/link the file on this site if you do not have the consent of the creator, just not ethical, plus we would have to run your shorts up a flag pole to make an example of you.

And yes it is a shame if these individuals and their art "fall of the face of the earth", unfortunately that's the way most of this community works, since it is considered a "hobby" by most. There have been many files in the past that I would like to have had but never will due to the "disappearance" of the creator. :(

Even if there is still a page on the net where the artist has the intent of people being able to get them?
I've seen the work of hundreds of modelers, etc and I would only call 1/3 hobbists the rest are true artists wheter they see themselves that way or not. That is a shame. Thanks for the info.

You must know as well as I do that there are millions of web pages no longer being maintained by their creators. Just because a page is up, it does not mean the artist is still around and intends for their work to be distributed. If they did, they'd keep their links active. Unless their license agreement specifically states that an item may be redistributed without restrictions, you can't give it to anyone else even if you have a copy.

As an artist, the creator of these works has the right to control their distribution. It's called copyright. And even if they once gave stuff away for free, most do not give rights for anyone else to distribute their creations. If you cannot contact the artist and get permission, then you cannot legally distribute their items.

Guess that clears that up. Looks like I'm SOL then. Oh, well. It was worth trying to get this stuff. Thanks for all the help and info.
