Just a word or two on the original premise. If super heroes simply played out these parts in public one must ask why. Going back to the wrestling analogy, the answer would be because they get paid. Who pays them? Vince McMahon.
This becomes a slippery slope when we begin to ask if God is the equivalent of Vince McMahon. On the other hand maybe someone other than God rewards them at which time we must determine the nature of this uber-entity. That uber-entity then becomes a real super hero / villain. Sort of a powerful super sociopath with schizophrenia.
That's my take. Now we just need to figure out why Elvis wore a cape.... |

Elvis could have been fighting crime on the side. Nixon actually made him an honorary FBI agent. There was a photo taken when they met each other.
"Thank you very much". |

| Hmmm... Very nice answer.... Maybe there was a whole costume with a big red "E" on the chest. Never thought of it that way. |

There are other motivations besides getting paid. In the case of those with Powers, perhaps this "show" would be the only way to have anything like a normal life.
Perform or get locked up in a lab and never see your family again. |
