I'm having trouble with bump maps in P6. When I apply them, I'm getting alot of black specks, and when I turn down the amount, you can't notice anything. What is the best setting to use?

First, make sure you're using the BUMP node and not the GRADIENT BUMP.
The setting really depends on what type of material you're looking to replicate. For human skin, I usually use around 0.002. I don't think I've ever used a higher bump than 0.05 on anything. _________________ Jim Harnock - ODS

Thanks for the info ODS. I didn't think you could go that low and still get results. Still have alot to learn, it's hard to teach a old P4 dog new tricks. GRADIENT BUMP??

It also makes a big difference depending on the size of the render. If youre making a very small render, your eyes may not see the bump appear that low, but if you go to high, the bump will look awful. Trial and error, and lots of practice.
And hey Jim - I love the new avatar! _________________ =============================
