I'll be out of commission for a couple days, since stupid Norton refuses to fix/quarantine or delete this Trojan -- meaning I have to reformat my hard drive to get rid of it. I've tried everything I know to get rid of the damn thing and I've been through two different techies at Symantec and four at Dell and nothing works. Even the EXE Symantec designed to remove this specific Trojan doesn't work.
Anyway, I have tomorrow off, so I will HOPEFULLY get everything backed up and get the reformatting done tomorrow, then can get myself operational on Saturday. _________________ Jim Harnock - ODS

It was called Tojan.Vundo. It doesn't do any tangible damage, it just keeps running new processes in the background to bog down system resources. _________________ Jim Harnock - ODS

| i will have to check for the name on thenext scan. for some reason i haf a trojan that keeps poping up in my temp file seems to do teh exact same thing and neither avg nor avast seem able to fully get rid of it so far. i keep finding things like 4321.exe running. So i end up running my virus scan every day or two just to make sure. |

One good way to check to see if it's Vundo is to close everything you have running, then open the Task Manager to the Processes tab. You can actually watch as random programs that aren't even open start popping up in the processes. _________________ Jim Harnock - ODS

If the trojan keeps coming back you will most likely have to edit your registry in order to keep it from repairing itself.Nortons removel tools have a readme that explains how to regedit.
Just on a side note you can always try using a less known virus protection program. They tend to be better at protecting your computers since now a days virus' and trojans are written to first disable the better known companies. |
