I received an instant message when I logged onto Renderosity today. Apparently one of the moderators wanted me to remove an image because I have the CNN logo in it, which use apparently violates their copyright policy, even though the write-up clearly stated the logo is the property of CNN.
Well I removed it per the request, but out of curiosity, I did a quick search through the gallery, and without much effort at all I found images using Sony, IBM, NBC and ABC logos; as well as images presented as if they were magazine covers, laid out in the style of the publication they were emulating; e.g., Newsweek, Time, Maxim, to name three. Likewise, the various superheroes from the DC, Marvel & other universes are all trademarked properties; why do they not appear to care about that? I kind of wonder why the CNN logo set them off?
For the curious, the image was the same one I have posted here under the title "Velocity In The News." Maybe I should remove this image from my gallery? Or any images of trademarked properties, like Velocity? Thoughts, comments, etc. welcome. _________________ "Take sides! Always take sides! It could be a case of particular companies being more strict about "Fair Use" like Disney.
If you searched 'Rosity for anything Disney related, I doubt you would find much. Disney is exceedingly strict.
Actually, I did find an image of Stitch. But I take your point. _________________ "Take sides! Always take sides! You may be wrong - but the man who refuses to take sides must always be wrong! Heaven save us from poltroons who fear to make a choice." - Robert A. Heinlein, "Double Star"

Renderosity has always been wildly uneven in their enforcement of ALL their rules. I've had two pictures with CNN logos up at Renderosity since about 2003 and no one has ever complained. Likewise, I've used Superman's emblem repeatedly without issue and it's just as much a corprate trademark as CNN's logo. _________________ Jim Harnock - ODS

I took a quick tour through your gallery there, and found the images you mentioned. I'd be tempted to ask R'osity why they haven't kicked you off for using the sacred CNN logo, but I don't want to get you in trouble with them. Let them do their own digging.
In the mean time, I haven't heard bupkis back from them, other than an acknowledgement that my IM to the moderator was received. I'm really starting to dislike them intensely, and thinking seriously of pulling my other art from their site. Either that, or contact CNN, show them the pic I made and ask them whether in their opinion as the trademark owners my use doesn't fall into the 'fair use' category... _________________ "Take sides! All it usually takes is one complaint of copyright or trademark infringement and the staff at 'Rosity rushes to have the images removed rather than discuss whether or not they are really infringements.
As far as DC and Marvel characters in the galleries, 9 times out of 10 they will be removed if noticed by anyone in authority. The fact that some slip through is merely a fact of life when you have hundreds of images being posted every day. Some are just bound to slip through the cracks. I pulled all my DC and marvel based images after being told to pull one from their site. If I wanna post Superheros I post them here now.
If I wanna post nude men, I post at MalePoserotica. If I wanna post Kinky Sex I post at RaunchyMinds.com. Just post images to sites by their rules and find sites for whatever type image you post and be done with it in my opinion. It's simple enough to find sites that cater to your images rather than making your images just to cater to one site's TOS.
On that topic, just wanna let everyone know that www.lostin3d.com welcomes images from most Sci-Fi TV shows and a few fantasy. If you have images in those genre's I invite you to post images in the gallery there.

There are some unfriendly elements over there. The most outrageous thing was the threatened law suit against Poser Pros.
As far a I can ascertain, the site operators think they originated the concept of online sales and that they should have a monoply on the "biz".
Occasionally there is something over there worth seeing or downloading, but I'm not impressed with bulk of tutorials, free items, and sale items. It's entirely too overgrown.
Usually I would rather visit an individual artist merchant's site instead of browsing half of the Poser community. There's only about 6 vendors I'd ever be willing to buy from.

Well, I've pretty much had it with them. I responded promptly (within 24 hours) to the moderator's notice, and wrote back stating that the offending picture had been pulled and stating why I had thought it would be okay, and asked some questions. This was on the 22nd of December. So far I've heard bupkis. I sent a reminder today; we'll see what happens - but I rather think nothing will. If that's the case, I'll pull my gallery and account and they can go to hell. _________________ "Take sides! Always take sides! I have posted tons of hero stuff over the years I have been a part of 'Rosity, with no problems whatsoever. Although when I submitted the links to my freebies on my website, they rejected all of them except for one, because they didnt know the character?
Personally, I deal only with Rosity to post images. Never had a problem so far, knock on wood.
But I seldom purchase from them. Same with PoserPro's, although they are much better. I don't like having to search forever for something, both have terrible seach engines, poorly organized stores, and, alas, poor customer service. Specifically Rosity in that department. Recently I had a problem with a file purchased, and after 30 days of trying to communicate with the creator, who was not responding in any way, I simply sent Rosity a link to my website, which hosted the story, and the blatant disregard 'Rosity has for its customers.
When they saw that posted, they threated legal action against me.
I said it will remain until either the fil creator fixes the problem - Or 'Rosity refund me my money.
Less than 12 hours later my money was refunded.
I will stick with dealing one on one with designers who value my money. _________________ =============================
