There is a more general question to be considered, about what a printed comic should cost, but this isn't it.

I sell comics online. I'm about to release my most ambitious so far, a monthly superhero team book for download only, and I'm trying to decide what it should cost to buy. Partly, the answer depends on sales volume: the choice between selling a million at one dollar each and five hundred at five dollars each is easy, but if you're only going to sell five hundred whatever, it's harder.

I need to split proceeds with a merchant host, and earn enought to be able to continue with the monthly.

What would you all pay for a monthly 22-page superhero team book to read on your computers?

That would be hard to say if it is just as good as a printed comic then charge a printed price if you have several titles charge a monthly subscription. what ever you do get rid of the middle man that away you can decide a fair price at what it cost you to offer them online if not. then $2.50 an issue i think that is what then mainstream cost.
put hey thats just me.

That's the thing, though: it's not on paper. In that respect, it's not as good as a printed comic. You can't read it on the loo. Equally, it doesn't have the printing and distribution costs of a printed comic, so that element of price-justification doesn't exist.

I think new printed comics cost more than $2.50, but until I leave the house tomorrow I haven't got one to hand and can't check.

Let's say I need to split the price equally with the merchant. Let's say I need to earn a thousand dollars a month from the book to consider it worthwhile (dollars are little things these days). That means two thousand in sales. Is that a thousand sales at two dollars each, or five hundred at four dollars, or what?

Thats the kicker isn't it more people would be more inclined to spend 2 bucks on a comic than 4 bucks
you could always try marketing and get paid to have an ad
It is possible to read it on the loo you would just have to print it out yourself (i.e. the consumer)
What are you charging for your other comics make it the same price
If you don't do anything you wont make anything

I know there are a few online subscription sites around and I think they charge a monthly fee for multiple strips. I can't find them anymore but that is one thing that I thought of. I am really not sure about the cost though for a single issue.
