The 3d pix are made using several programs
The first program is Poser
That has the 3d models that are used
The next is Photoshop which is used to create the texure maps for the characters
Most creators here use Poser, whose current version is cheap compared to most 3D programmes. I learned a lot using Poser 3, which used to pop up free on magazine covers fairly often. Since Poser changed hands a couple of times, I haven't seen it.
Poser 4, which most of us still use, is probably cheaper still at e-frontier.com. It might be called Poser Artist now.
DAZ/Studio is free from DAZ. I haven't used it, but I gather it does much of what Poser does.
