Music is in the ear of the beholder. To me..>Rap has no musical ability in it. Sampling other's songs, and adding your won lyrics is not a talen, IMO.

When rappers begin writting every note of every song, do not sample, copy or steal from other artists, even with permision, then I will give it a little leaway. Until then - Rap belongs in the .99cent bin for those who cant afford real music.

As far as I know, the acronym RAP stands for Rithm And Poetry.
For something to be considered music it has to contain these elements...Harmony Melody and Rythm. Rap only offers most of the time Rythm.
Therefore it should not be considered music...It should have itīs own niche in the entertainment world.

Rap perpetuates self-inflicted racist stereotypes, that corporate music execs are all too comfortable with.

I've long wondered what purpose is served by corporations who encourage music that's often self-demeaning to the artists and listeners. They could make money with something else, that tells kids their life has a bit more worth.

With respect who died and made you the God of Music dante - back to the inferno with you.

Even percussive pieces vary in timbre and usually in tone. I have no problems with rap as a form of music - the lyrics may be questionable - but hey! anybody ever check out heavy metal lyrics - or some rock and roll - there aint no monopoly on misogyny in the music world...

Neophytes and misogyny go hand in hand. Oh sure, the neophytes will claim they have a distinct culture and lifestyle, but it's just an excuse for more neophytic behavior.

I tell you these neophytes will be running for public office, spreading their misogyny everywhere!

Yes! The filthy sophomores and the neophytes both. I tell you, it's going to get ugly. REALLY UGLY!!!! They'll have to call in the Foreign Legion, the Janissaries, and one baby zebra.

The Soviets may be involved as well!

Well country musicians don't write 'every note' in their songs...in fact 'borrowing' licks and chord progressions in country is a given and an acknowledged tradition...it's a formula like writing romance novels which must be adhered to.

Most rock 'n' roll does not get its roots from blues or jazz, but from classical music...actually stealing unintentionally from classic music left and right has been going on since Elvis stole it from the brothers who stole it from Vivaldi, Bach and Pachelbel to name a few. Beatles = ritornello compositions perfected by Vivaldi, probably stolen from folk music of his day. Repeated by Mozart and Beethoven and Gershwin and the Yardbirds and Led Zepplin...and on and on

Most music you hear in movies is a variation on a theme from some composer who is probably dead.

Latin chants sung by Irish monks? Where's that originality coming from?

Dylan goes electric. It's no longer 'authentic' ?

Some Rap music is incredibly innovative and a lot of it sucks just like the stuff I listen to.

But if there's a devil, it plays smooth jazz...that's music perpetually searching for a melody...acht!!
