Not sure if this will affect anyone else or not.
I recently noticed a new 'Batman 2006" file (The name of the file is Superhero Morphs and Costume) on Renderosity's site.
The link to the file leads back to
http://www.strikeforce3.net/downloads.html (Check page 5)
There are a couple of hero figures for download.
The Batman 2006 one is being re-distributed using one of my free props from my site - My superhero belt (used in all my Batman images over the last year and a half).
I recognize many other of the figures, but not sure who they belong to. Only the batman one is on Renderosity, but the others are on Strikeforce's website.
If anyone has any older figures out there, or what to make sure the same thing isnt being done to them (Not even credit in the read me file), head over and take a look. _________________ =============================

I spoke with the team over at 'Rosity. Seems this isnt the first time that the site has posted stuff on their site, or linked to Rosity with copyright infringed items.
They have warned many times, and yet he continues (They should just close his account and ban him completely)
The admin from the originating site emailed me to apologize, and said that the file was given by someone else - Unlike here, they dont list who uploads or shares what, and they do the hosting. Under those circumstances, the website owner should do the work to ensure theres no cpyright violations.
Two days later, he reposted the file, but with a cheal looking belt from someone else, Im assuming. _________________ =============================

I thought that The belt looked like something you did, I too stumbled across Strike force.net! though 'Rosity Awhile back their was a lot of figures that looked like ones I seen before! found here or on other sites. that's such a shame somebody would sink that low...
If they would give credits on them (If the can be reposted on other sites) that would have been the best course of action!
People like this make it harder for other people to find such nice freebies on web sites, it sometimes gets to the point that the makers of the mesh delete the freebies they give out, because of theft.
I have come across many copyright infringed items
That where for sale on smaller sites and they change you alot for this! one of them got busted for doing this! I say if you don't own it don't sell it! Not worth the risk.
And If somebody gave it as a freebie make absolutely sure you can repost it on other sites, before you do anything with the file add Credits in the readme file! easy to do (so do it) _________________ "The Earth is the cradle of the mind but one cannot remain in the cradle forever."

See, all it takes is some communication with the author.
The Admin from HeroMorph contacted me months ago asking to distribute my files through their website, just like I do here at Animotions. They were offering to store them on their own website.
I said I did have one small rule, if they were willing to follow it, then I would be honoured to partner with them.
Do not steal or hot-link to my files. Make the link connect to the main page of my site, and then visitors can go download the file they want.
And they agreed, and have generated some positive visits to my site.
But just taking and claiming it as your own, is outright theft. _________________ =============================

Sorry to hear what happened Aremis. Have you contacted the owner of StrikeForce3 Studios about this?
I went to the StrikeForce3 site and saw several files that look familiar although I can't quite remember the original artists with the exception of Aremis.
You know it is just a simple matter of respect and consideration to ask the creator of the files permission to post their work. At least give artists like Aremis a chance to give the thumbs up or down to the request. Not asking and posting the files without permission is just blatant theft!

Wow!
We'll since I am the owner of Strikeforce Studios, I'd like to get my two cents in on this.
Aremis, I responded to you personally (forgot to mention that, eh) and explained to you that I was given permission to post the models on my site by, well let's just allow that person to remain anonymous for now...
When you raised the possibility of, how did you put it, ah yes, freebie theft, I obliged your request to remove at once. I then got in contact with the creator of that specific model, and to make the point moot, had him create an entirely new belt for that prop. Said and done... I reposted on my site.
Your communication with Renderosity seems, well a bit spitefull, no? After all I did as you requested per the email you sent, the item was promptly removed pending investigation...
If any of the models that we have posted infringe upon other artist's work, we are happy to remove at once. Interesting to note is that the super hero models on my site have been posted on 3D Commune for a long time, some since 2004...
Perhaps that is where these models were seen...
Aremis, you do raise a good point. Your site clearly indicates that re-distribution is a no-no... Sure. Your work is your work. But it is unfair for you to continue to berate us. Considering that we communicated the unintentional fault on our part and made good on your request...

Oh yes... and as for the Renderosity thing...
Sorry your right, I added the name "Batman" to the thumbnail image for the download. They asked me to remove because of copyright infringement with the name... Hence the name "Superhero Morphs and Costume."
Thanks for continuing to cast us in a dark light...
We post free items because we like to share with the community. You act like we tried to steal your business...
Whatever. You do have some nice models... Not much tact tho...

Maybe - Just maybe - If you check your sent email, you will see, this post? It was done after I contacted the site, before you responded back to me.
Yes, I did get your email. Yes , you removed the file and quickly replaced it with an identical one with a different prop belt.
But you want to knock my tact? Well, first, any website that has freebies should be checking what gets posted very closely. 2, if someone were to post illegal files (And from what I have been told by the higher powers at Rosity, this has not been the first complaint), then why continue dealing with that individual? If someone else shared it with you, and got you in hot water, then Im sorry for that - But the responsibility falls squarely on your shoulders for hosting the file directly. You did the right thing by me, by removing the file temporarily - But its still harming the community by continuing to support the individual. How much of his other files may have stolen items included? I saw others, but they arent mine, so I cannot verify 100%.
my intentions are not to cast you in a dark light, but to get you to be a pillar in the community. Rather than coming at me, why not go at the person that placed you in such a position? Let them go try and peddle their wares elsewhere, and send a message to others who might try the same thing?
Think about that.
Or don't. _________________ =============================

And by the way - I dont mind that I sent traffic your way. It seems you do more in the relm of online comics/stories than freebies. I respect that, and the fact that you werent the "creator" of said file. _________________ =============================

I'm going to keep an eye on this for the moment without forming an opinion.
Aremis? Does Lando's response to removing the items satisfy you? _________________ "I'd add a legitimate comment here, but that would mean reading everything, which I have no patience for." - Slynky

Ko. Seemed more'n a bit ehrmm... snarky to me. Hence why I'm not forming an opinion at the moment.
Lando? Since Aremis seems to be cool with it at the moment, and you've stated that you've done your end on taking care of it... let it drop for the nonce?
OR: take the subject of relative "tact", "unfair", and "spiteful" up with Aremis in private email, since you don't like his tone, and *not* in my forums.
Else I'll be required to step in and form - and state - an opinion on what I've read, and I am *definately* NOT a tactful man in stating my opinions. Aremis is the very soul of diplomacy in comparison. Capische?
We be like, level and shit? _________________ "I'd add a legitimate comment here, but that would mean reading everything, which I have no patience for." - Slynky
