This may have been done here before, and is probably not relevant to many (some of you can color circles around me! others don't get into line art at all), but I've had questions from a number of different fronts about converting B&W line art to color, so I've put together this tutorial. For any newbies and intermediates out there, I hope this has some good advice.

Take care;
Chas

A good tutorial, but in the beginning, you make it a little complicated in getting rid of the white in your line-art. Just switch the layter to multiply and you're ready to go.

(side note: I moved this to the Tutorials forum)

Whuh? There's an easier way?

Never tried that. Have to play around with that tomorrow.

(Hoping this isn't going to make me feel stupid :oops: )

Thanks for the pointer and I'll adjust based on what I find.

Take care;
Chas

Doh!

As much as I've used that blend mode, I've never used it for line art. Think I tried it once, the background still LOOKED white and I thought "crap; didn't work."

The page has been revised. Thanks!

My pleasure. If you look a little further down this forum, you'll see I did a comic colouring tutorial too, but a different style of colouring.

Yet another way to do it in Photoshop.

Messing with layers always gives me a head ache. You invariable click on the wrong one, or try to edit a locked one.

The way the Pro's are doing it these days it to use a spot color channel.

Step 1. Convert Mode to Grayscale Ratio 1
Step 2. Reset Swatches. You want the forground to be black and background to be white.
Step 3. Select all.
Step 4. Cut
Step 5. Go to Channels.
Step 6: New Spot Channel
Step 7: Name it Black and give 100% opacity.
Step 8: Paste
Step 9: Drop selection.
Step 10: Make a new layer
Step 11: Convert to CMYK.

I'll upload a Photoshop Action to make it easy.

===================================

GRRRRRRR!!!!!

I just tried to add it to freebies and it tells me the file is an unnacceptable file type.

http://joetomcollins.com/Comics/Comic Tools.zip

WHAT THE HELL!!! It start with http and ends in .zip just like it asks for.

Maybe this is another reason there aren't a lot of new freebies. You have to have your own web space to offer them, and then it still bitches about it.
