First off I just want to say how incredible some of the work u folks have posted in the gallery. Absolutely amazing.
I have POSER 4, BRYCE 4(?), AMORPHIUM (?), LIGHTWAVE (?), AND RHINO (?). I use CORELDRAW 8 instead of PHOTOSHOP.
I know enough to be dangerous but I'd really like to become profficient in doing 3d art. I feel its that next step in art.
Do any of you have suggestions on books/sites for information? Particuarly modeling (I dont like to download someone else's hard work! I want to do it myself)

Welcome to Animotions Luthor! The artists here are pretty cool!
You have a good array of software there. I can give you quite a few link referrals, but it all depends on what you want to learn in particular. Proficiency in 3d Art is not an easy shoe to fill, especially since there are so many valid constraints (arguments).
I think it would be easier to help you if you could tell me if there is anything specific that you would like to learn more on.
Modelling is also in the same category. Which modeller do you prefer? The options are endless in all departments
Check out 3D buzz for some Awesome tutes ~ but you need to register for their site (free registration)
Arcana ~ Awesome Poser tutes, as well as tutes on postwork and other software; now owned by the one of the leaders in the Poser Industry ~ Daz3D.
Hopefully these will get you started on your next step. If you have any specific project hopes, eg Animation, Anime, Modelling for Poser etc that you would like to find out about, let me know and I'll give you some more specific links.
Don't forget to check out Renderosity as well ~ their Specific Modelling and Application forums have some tutes or resource links fitting your needs
Let me know how you are progressing

Thank you so much for the info.
I will check out the sites u listed and see what they have.
I love to do fantasy/comic book art and they oppertunity to make 2d into 3d is one I just cant pass up.
I usualy do the figure in poser, import into bryce (do the backgrounds in there too) then
import the bmps (or jpg cant remember format it saves in) into corel and hand paint clothes, hair, hardware etc. It turns out ok, but it isnt true 3d, just a standard photo manipulation.
I try to mess with rhino and lightwave as much as possible but they are so far above my head I get lost. I have ordered a pretty comprehensive book on rhino that was recomended so hopefuly that will help. Amorphium is nice but since it isnt the pro version, trying to import is a nightmare (using the "magic triangle" method). Canoma Or carrara? cant remember which) is cool but there's no depth to it. just simple forms that require skin or texture to add the detail.
I would like to (someday) be able to be able to "freehand" a true 3d pic. Whether its converting a regular 2d pic into a 3d or "sculpting" models by scratch, I'd like to be profficient at both.
Thanks for letting me ramble.
for a sample of my work (very simple)
check out JADEDMARY.COM
I'll put some stuff in the gallary as soon as I get them in order

If you can find a copy of this months [July's] APC Magazine, you will find a free full version of Truespace 3.2 [a demo version of TrueSpace 6.5 is also included ~ AND ~ they are giving their readers a chance to upgrade to the 6.5 version at a really cool price]
APC Magazine is the shortened name for the Australian Personal Computing Magazine. You could go to their website and purchase a copy of the magazine as a singular unit rather than having to subscribe for a whole year, if you cannot locate a copy in your country of residence.
Their website URL is right this way if you would like to CLICK ME
If you would like make enquiries another way to make contact with them is via email. You can do so by CLICKING ME
Or perhaps if worse came to worse you could ask someone in OZ (australia) if they could ship it to you
In relation to learning how to Freehand a "true 3-D" pic ~ Practice. Practice as often as you can, and keep right on practicing. I like getting Art books (Anatomy, Still Life, figure drawing and painting books), and practicing their techniques in CG as opposed to the traditional pencil or canvas purpose they were intended for . Local Art Supply stores or Book shops should be able to get them in.
Find as many tutorials for drawing, postwork, painting, lighting, photoshop, etc as you can and absorb as much as you can.
Or Click this LINK to begin a perilous journey into an unknown Realm ~ fraught with darkness and trepidation, but as yet ~ awaiting to be discovered!!

I hear u. I practice as much as possible, and I know I have same dangerous tools but lack the knowledge on how to use the darn things.
I try to check out some tutorials but sadly sometimes even those seem out of my league.
So truspace is more of a frree hand program then? I like the "sculpting" capabilities in amorphium, is it like that?
I also wanted to ask, what is the diff with Michael, vicki, millenium etc to the standard poser figures? Is there more controls?
I finally uploaded some pics. Please take a gander, I would love your input.
cap911 and iceman.
I also did my bands webpage at jadedmary.com. simple but I thought it turned out pretty cool.

Truespace is a middle range modeller with some very good control aspects to it. Here is the information that the APC mag has on it:
trueSpace3.2 - full working version
------------
Create incredible 3D art and animations with trueSpace3.2, the high-end 3D software worth $970, that's yours free on this month's APC CD thanks to Caligari.
trueSpace's 3D interface takes full advantage of 3D acceleration for game development and professional animation.
Features include:
Various polyhedron primitives as starting points
Powerful point editing, smoothing, sweeping and deformation tools for primitive manipulation
Metaballs object and plastiform tools to create complex organic shapes through interactive blending
Support for multiple spot, local and infinite lights
A full physics simulation engine and inverse kinematics for jointed articulation
There are also libraries of flexible materials and textures with full UV mapping control, 3D paint and decals
A large percentage of everything can be animated and full editing control of animation is provided through a keyframe editor. A variety of file format import options and export formats add to the flexibility and compatability with other programs.
Re: technical support
Although we cannot offer technical support on trueSpace3.2 so offer no guarantees of responses, if you have any problems or questions, you can contact: thomas@caligari.com
Licence: Fully working version.
Online: http://www.caligari.com Operating system: Windows 95/98/Me, Windows NT/2000, Windows XP.
Requires: 16MB RAM, 15MB free hard disk space, DirectX.
regarding the differences between Vickie Michael et al: The Millenium People (Vickie and friends) were created after the original Poser 4 release. These models have far greater possibilities due to the density of their mesh and the joint parameters.
