So I decided to take a little break from modeling Acroyear and try to make a figure I haven't seen to many renders of.
The ever livin' Thing!!!!
I also got to play with Poser 5 for this because my friend who owns it has been out of work for way over ayear and is going to security gurad school to get $9 hour job since the graphic arts market in New York is as dead as free speech over at R'osity.
I have to say, after playing with it for a few hours... I AM SO GLAD I DIDN'T BUY THIS!!!!
Fireflop still has major render errors as you can see... It choked more times that I can even count... and oh yeah... WHAT MORON BEURACRAT DESIGNED THE MATERIAL ROOM!!!
The maretial room might have been cool if you didn't have to "click the menu, select material, click the library, repeat!!!!"
At any rate... after hours of playing ith Marterial room and Photoshop I finnally got a decent result for the Thing body texture.
The same testure set up took me about 5 min is DAZ Studio. but D|S doesn't have a way to load custom morphs that aren't injected yet.
The real shame is that for all it's power, Lightwave3D (My main 3D app) doesn't support subsurface displacment yet.
Oh well.
I'll post more pics when I have the head texture maps done. |

Here's the DAZ|Studio version. All I did was load the CR2 fromt he figure I made in P5 into D|S. Then between the time I posted my last post and this one, I set up all lights and the displacement Map.
Should have spent more time on the lights... but hey. |

| Outside of the distortion on the shoulders, I think he looks pretty cool. (And I'm glad to hear that you don't think P5 was worth the money. I've gone back and forth about buying it, and recurring comments like yours keep telling me to save my cash.) |

Yeah. P5 is a total waist of cash IMHO. The "New Advanced Material Room" almost was cool.
Basically you mix up your texture in a node and can tweak it until it's just rights. Then you attach that node to to any of the setting you want by drawing a line to them.
It breaks down when you have to do it all over again from scratch every time you want to apply the texture to another material.
Also you can see the render had a few issues I couldn't get to go away.
As for the tearing at the shoulders, I through that map together in ahalf hour in Pshop. I'm going to make a better job of it when I have more time.
If i can make the morph into an INJ and REM, I'll upload it here along with the finished textures as a freebe.
Then we can finnally have some cool THING renders. No offense to whoever made the old one, but it kind of looks like thing blowup doll standing next to the rest of the real Fantastic Four. I might do one for Sixus's Behemoth too. |

| Did your friend have the latest updates from Curious Labs installed? It fixes some issues. |

No you don't -- you save the material setting to your library and then all you have to do is click to get the exact thing on each material zone. _________________ Jim Harnock - ODS

Other methods:
right click "Select all"
right click "Apply to all" (good for shirts, pants, and other things that are of one material type yet many zones)
or
right click "Copy" and then right click "Paste" where needed.
There are also some cool things you can do with a single grey scale map and the Blender node, but that gets a lot more complicated. _________________ "Flash, quit heckling the supervillain!" - Green Lantern

Another thing you could do is get the P5 MAT writer Pyhton script from Netherworks. _________________ Jim Harnock - ODS

| Also from the render it looks like you haven't set the displacement bounds on the displaced (or "bumped") sections of the figure. Unfortunately this is something that you have to do for each body part and does get tedious. It's in the Properties tab (where the Visibility checkbox resides) for each body part. I tend to set the value to the same as the displacement value on the material. |
