I only recently picked up the first collection of New Avengers. So I'm interested... how many of you have read this? And what do you think of it?

Myself... the Avengers were one of the first comics I read as a kid. I loved the old team. But I felt as though the book lost its way somewhere in the early 1990's, and I stopped reading it. I've since read the book sporatically, and it seemed like it was getting better, but still didn't really grab my interest enough to read it again regularly.

Avengers Dissassembled grabbed my attention. They did several things that shocked this old Avengers fan. I thought to myself "I'm going to have to see where they're going with this next."

And now we have the new book. The old-school purist in me is still shocked by the destruction of the old team, but I surprised myself by actually liking what Bendis & Co. did with the first storyline. The characters are interesting, Spider-Man's dialogue actually made me laugh out loud several times (scaring the bejeesus out of my cat), and the team lineup has just enough continuity with the old Avengers to keep me pleased while guessing what will happen next with the new guys on the team. I guess I give the book a provisional thumbs up.

Though I'd still like to see some more of the "old" Avengers show up in the new book...

I picked up an old issue now and then but I never really got into them but I like the new book. I really feel Bendis has done it right on this so far.

I still dont like the wrtiting for Trade Paper Backs. Story stretching over 6 issues when you can do the story in 2-3.

I'm at the point where I read and can enjoy, but I find I'm enjoying more what is going on over at DC than at Marvel.

The New Avengers needs to pick up the pace.

Personally, its one of my favorites going right now. I agree with Spidey's dialogue - Even with the changes recently to his character, they managed to bring back the old wisecracking Spidey of my youth.
They seem to have taken Cap down a notch, so to speak, not so intense, even having him play off Peter's jokes at times, with his dry attitude.
Tony is always going to be the same, which is good.
Having Spiderwoman in there, really brought back some good memories for me (She's looking good for a chick who's what? At least in her 50's now lol).

Overall, Ive been buying every issue since it started, and Ill stick with it until I see it become dry, disoriented, and boring like the original Avengers became in the end.
