Until recently, all I knew of comics legend Alex Toth was a single, over-detailed double-page spread of John Carter from a mid-'70s issue of FOOM! (I am that old) Then I read DC Showcase Presents House Of Mystery, with some wonderful, graceful Toth-drawn stories inside, and became a fan.

Apparently he died yesterday. Another one gone.

IMP.

While not an afficionado, the name rings a bell. I think I may have some examples of his work in some HOM's too.

I suppose it is an inevitable, though sad, fact that as the years roll on, so the roster of the previous generation's artists will shrink.

Let's hope that all that's to enjoy about the medium isn't lost with them.

I know Alex Toth's designes were a major influene in tghe 60's and early 70's in both comics and animation. Just about all of the Hanna Barbara hero deisigns from Superfriends to Space Ghost, were based on his work.

He was also a huge inspiration on a lot of artists including Scott Hampton, George pratt and, more visibly, Bruce Timm of the Batman Animated fame. I am not as familiar with his work as I should be but what I do know was very cool. He was a master craftsman at storytelling.
