Saw this a couple of days ago. Oh dear.

I won't spoil the story for anyone.

I liked the first X-Men film: I thought it did a good job of highlighting the prejudice issue which, while not neessarily part of the original conception, has been the comic's main concern for most of its lifetime, introduced the characters quite well, and got most of them broadly right.

I thought the second film was almost Wolverine solo: more violent, and less interesting.

This one wilfully dodges the most interesting character dynamics - Wolverine/Cyclops and, in the context of the film's own story, the Worthingtons - turns Wolverine into a romantic hero, and contrives a formulaic lead relationship in place of the ones which worked best in the comics.

The puzzle is that the writers were obviously familiar with decades of the comics' storylines; they just seem to have missed the point. Several times.

The Beast was good, but otherwise... I'll accept almost any superhero film, but this time, I wish they hadn't bothered.

Oh, and the post-credits "surprise": I expected that as soon as the Professor's confrontation with Jean ended (avoiding spoilers here). Set up with a sledge hammer.

No.

Remember the only time we saw Xavier teaching. Then remember the outcome of his confrontation with Jean.

Mr. Cranky gave it four bombs: "As good as a poke in the eye with a sharp stick".

I haven't seen it yet. I think I'll wait til it hits "free" cable.
