I've been playing with and posing the new figure for the last day. It's a nice little figure. The biggest improvement over version 3 is the upper arms don't bend in awkward rubbery ways in some poses.
The UV mapping is also different. The arms appear to be separate from the rest of the body. I never liked the unimesh mapping on V3, but I haven't tried to make my own textures for the new figures yet. We will see how my first V4 texture project goes.
Having purchased the "Complete Pack" the morphs weren't made as injection files. Morphs are nice and simple like Vicky 2. If there are injection morphs, I haven't found them yet.
There are some drawbacks. There isn't a lot of clothing available yet, but I'm sure it's coming soon. I was surprised to find a body suit with morphs in the vendor's pack that was included.
The only nagging question is whether or not I really need V4. The logical answer is no, because I have tons of V2 and V3 items in my Poser runtime file. On the other hand I'm bored with the female figures I have. |

Typical man.
What's V4's vertex/polycount?
I don't think I'm really interested in yet another high polygon mesh. I make my own figures now, I make my own morphs.
I'm waiting for DS and Poser to start sluging it out in the normal map market. |

I exported the complete mesh into UV Mapper. It said 73796 verticies. The head alone is 15078 verticies.
V4 takes about the same amount of time to render as V3. Neither of them are suitable for big animation rendering projects on most home computers. A low res version would be nice.
The rigging on V4 is significantly better than either V2 or V3. There are no separate body parts for the buttocks which helps the inverse kinetics work much better when posing from the hip.
I would guess you're one of those people who export the meshes and re-rigs the figures for rendering in other programs. You probably won't get much value out of the rigging.
It's disappointing to be thought of as typical. |

Sounds pretty close to V3.

Sounds a lot like the work Jim Burton did on Jesse's upgrade..

I'm getting there. Might be something to learn from the base figure. Rigging for Poser is always an interesting challenge. You have to find work arounds that teach you to rig better in other apps.

Don't take it too personally. I sure you're very atypical in other respects.
Thanks for the info! |

I'm having a bit of a private debate myself whether I want to jump to V4, after having invested so much time/energy/money on V3. Plus there's so much readily available for free on a ton of sites.
If the only improvements are the arms and no INJ's then I think I can hold off for a little longer.
Actually I like V3 much better anyway. _________________ EricBrooks.Com - More fun than you probably deserve! |

I'd recommend hopping over to their site and checking out the info promimently displayed on the new features for V4. There are a lot more improvements than just the arms when it comes to rigging, let alone everything else that has changed from V3 to V4. |

I bought V4 (and its morphs version) and pretty happy with them. I really like the much easier manageable morphs, for example you no longer have to deal with individual muscle morph injections like those in V3, instead you are given morph dials of different body physiques to adjust with, like body builder and fitness dials and so on. I also like the preset arrangement of the morphs. I also bought V4 Bodysuit and it is a great addition as V4 supplement.
Not sure if there are "spandex" morphs in V4 though. |
