Hal is coming back? Guess it looks like there is a end in sight of my purchasing the Green Lantern TPB's. It'll end on the last one featuring Kyle Rayner.
One more reason to Make Mine Marvel. |

Hey don't foget that one of those little blue dudes
attached himself to Hal only deattaching when he was ready to save the world and i believe he even offered Hal a ring then.
Bringing Hal back I think is a mistake The should leave him as Spetre or let him rest in peace.
i was realy excited when supes died then they brought him back messed up his powers and everything. But to find the reason for all that the companies do just look at money that is all they care about so they do what ever they can to get it. |

Hal is the reason many have ever heard of GL. DC's treatment of the char was shameful. I, for one , anxiously await Hal's return and hope DC does as good a job(w/ that) as they did w/ ollie's rise from the dead. _________________ freedom and whiskey |

Personally, I think there's room for both Kyle and Hal in DCU, but I guess there's no way to please everyone. _________________ "Flash, quit heckling the supervillain!" - Green Lantern

How's 'bout giving Kyle a new power ring...give him a yellow power ring...a blue one...a pink one...any color he wants...Leave my Hal as the one true GL!!! _________________ =============================

It would be an excellent plot twist if Kyle did something crazy or evil enough to merit imprisonment in the anti-matter universe of Quard prison, banishiment from Earth, or a legal and just sentence of execution.
Personally, I would like to see kyle die in a battle royal against the Justice League and Hal. |

Though I will give you that Hal has got the most die-hard fan base of the lot. _________________ "Flash, quit heckling the supervillain!" - Green Lantern

Today I purchased my first new comic in 10 years.
Oddly enough it feels like little has changed in spite of missing the whole Paralax and Spectre storylines. My collection ended after about the first 3 issues of Kyle Ryner stories. I don't where the story is going, but it seems gripping. |

Well, I purchased a couple myself, first time this year.
I Picked up Marvel's "Secret War" book 1 to 3. I love the artwork, and I really bought them because of the suit designs in them.
Then I bought Green Lantern #181, Titled "Endings", where Kyle runs off into space to find himself. So I assumed this led up to Green Lantern Rebirth issue 1.
So I had to grab that book too.
And that was a real page turner. Hal being evil, yet not evil, things apparently reverting themselves to before Coast City destruction, yet not completely. The spirit of the Spectre showing its truly hideous side, yet Hal showing his old, Carefree, leather bomber jacket clad side, has all been great.
I do so hope that this is not going to be a short run, and then Kyle finds himself, and Hal lets him be "The One" GL.
No more Kyle...Bring back Hal.
Let Hal bring back the Corps!
Then I'll at least have a monthly book to buy again!
You should all check it out if you havent already! _________________ =============================

Yep, I've pratically stopped buying most of my DC Comics. this whole idea of bringing HAl back was just a money grubbing plan and to get those, what were they HEAT?, arses off their forum's case.
Kyle Rayner started off as the young dumb guy, but he matured, and is in my opinion the second best Lantern there is. Sorry but the Number One Lantern in my book, even though he's not called it anymore, is Sentinel. Gotta give the old man props.
but there is nothing anyone can do about Hal coming back, except what I hear a lot of people, myself included, are doing.
Ignoring It. |

I'm probably one of the few 'oldtimers' who liked what they did to Hal.
Let me explain.
Over time we've seen heroes become more human, ie. have problems.
Be it Tony Stark's alcoholism, Speedy's heroine addition, Hank Pym's abusiveness or whatever it may be.
To see one of the great heroes of the Silver Age cross the line and try to do what he though was right for all of the wrong reasons. The path to hell is paved... you know the rest.
"I never asked for anything from you but bring back Coast City. You have the power."
That moment of grief and pure emotion that anyone can connect to was very powerful. The man who always had it together had been pushed to far and could no longer take it.
The thing that made the most sense of that he had been able to save the day or at least minimize the damage. More importantly Hal's 'turning' and eventual demise had purpose. It wasn't done out of malise or 'just because'. It really was the only outcome. He had become the villian but he did it to right the wrong of his persived ineptitude to protect Coast City. He reversed time to bring Coast City back in Zero Hour.
The way they've been working on bringing him back has been great. His appearances in JSA started the ball rolling and paving the way for him to work on his redemption. (Of course Batman still hates him but...)
With every tale of a true hero there is triumph, tragedy and the road to redemption.
That's just my two cents. |

Can't resist making a couple of points in this thread... Hal Jordan will probably always be my favorite GL. I'm a little nervous about DC bringing him back unless they can recapture his essense. Hal, in his prime, was never as dark as Bruce Wayne, but he had just as strong a sense of responsibility. His personal life was always a mess. His girlfriend turned into one of his primary foes (Star Sapphire).
His intended replacement at the time, John Stewart, was too bland for me at the time. John was written better in the recent JLA cartoon. The only other Earth GL I had an affinity for was Guy Gardner. Guy had a tendency to "do the right thing without too much thought". He was irratic but fun. Maybe they should bring him back as well.
Final point... as I recall, Alan Scott was a GL from a parallel Universe. His power was based on magic and had a weakness to wood, not yellow.
Boy, 2006 is only hours old now and already I'm reminiscing about the past! |

They did bring back Gardiner. He became a GL again in the Green Lantern: Rebirth and he's one of the main characters in the new Green Lantern Corps series (which I think is at issue 5).
Alan Scott was an Earth GL, not from a parallel universe. Howver, he had no affiliation with the Guardians or the Corps. His ring is made from the remains of a green meteor called the Star Heart, as is his lantern. _________________ Jim Harnock - ODS
