I know you were replying to Mizrael, but wanted to say I don't think this is a racist thing.

I think I understand what you're upset about which is a desire to see the movie sticking more to the original expression of the characters and setting.

This is a good discussion

I think you're missing my point about Jessica all together. What I'm saying is that I, personally, never saw her as anything other than a beautiful young woman. I never even realised she was "Ethnic" til you pointed it out in this thread. I just don't tend to even pay attention to that kind of distinction when watching films or TV unless my nose is rubbed in the issue.

As for Eartha's Ethnicity, yeah she's dark skinned, but as a child of the 60's, What I remember was that her Catwoman was a scarier villan than Julie Newmar's who's Catwoman was just plain comical. That is why I liked her. She sent chills down my spine as a good villan should and Julie Newmar just made me laugh as the campiness of the show tended to do for the most part.

As for Rascism being a word meant to shut other people up, I wouldn't know about that. I'm white and not one who tends to go around crying about rascism on a whole. But I don't consider the Racial Purity feel of this thread and it's topic to be healthy to this forum in the least.

It might just be that as a gay man I'm more sensitive to the issues of bigotry than your normal white guy might be.

On the topic of Battlestar Galactica and speaking of the "Gay" question. Did anyone notice the weird 30 minute promo where Jamie Bambar was reading fan emails and got to the question "Will there be any gay characters this time?" and gave the guy who plays Baltar such a weird pervy look like they were implying something nasty between the two of them? What was that all about? And for that matter, why'd they even read an email question like that if they weren't going to answer it. It seemed stupid and lurrid like they were just trying to tease the gay audience. I could care less if they have gay characters on the show. I just want the characters to be believable and maybe even likable which so far, the only two I like are the President and Adama.

I didn't see the E-Mail thing.

If I'm a racist for pointing out Alba is latin, what does that make me on the dating front since about 80% of the women I've ever been have been latinas?

Hell in NYC I am the minority. It's really not about color on my part, it's about matching the source material.

Change all their names and make them the "REAL" Fantastic Four, and I'm Ok with.

While the Catwoman movie was nothing to write home about, I didn't really have a problem with it because Haily Berry was not Selina Kyle.

I bitched just at much about Steel. Shaque could have actually been decent in the part if they had covered up his big dumb face and paid some homage to his Superman origins.

But the director's quote was "Wellthe first thing we have to do is get rid of the cape and the S".

I would have fired his ass on the spot.

X-Men changed a lot of stuff as well, but they did a good job of it and they have mirrored classic storylines from the comic.

Daredevil takes a lot of flack. I wasn't exactly inspired by Duncan as Kingpin... but except for his color he looked like the character.

Quite honestly I thought the bigger Issue was Farrel's Bullseye, which didn't really work for me. and the Electra shure as hell doesn't seem like a Greek godess to me.

Still in all, you can see a certain respect for the comic in the film. One that I don't see here.

Instead I see some pissant Director and Producer trying to make their own thing (pardon the pun) out of a licence they probably feel they got stuck with.

The mantra of any good film makers is "Everything must move the story forward." Including the casting. This was a not vehical that should have been cast against type.

I guess the bottom line will be when the box office comes in. This is $11 I won't be spending even though I'm a fan of Alba.

I'll see Sin City twice to make it up to her.

That ranks right up there with the "Some of my best friends are...." excuse most rascists use! The fact is you have a problem with Miss Alba simply because of her race. At least be honest about your predjudice for christs sake! If she was incapable of Playing Sue Richards because of a lack of acting skills, THAT would be a reason to have a problem with her.

There's nothing racist about expecting a movie version of a comic to respect that appearance/ethnicity of the characters on which they're based. Would we accept Jet Li as Superman? No, because regardless of how good Jet Li may be, that's not what Superman looks like.

Either way, I'm locking this thread, because its straying into territory unsuitable for this site.
