Too late you already did.

No one likes to lose.. and we have had much worse complaints as well. Believe me.
and normally I ignore such things because it opens a world of S**t, but I'm not running contests any more so here goes.

50% of all entrants (and digitalmagi you are not in that % I might add), tossed in entries that in no way followed the rules and theme what so ever. There were like 10 that got kicked due to nudity and that is plainly stated in the TOS of the site as a big NO.

Often artists think that there work is better than others, it's a vanity point (not accusing you of this either), that's why I'm glad I'm a hack and not an artist.

Each judge picks what they felt looks best, works best, and FOLLOWS THE THEME. That one lots have trouble with... even when it's a simple theme. Again digitalmagi I don't mean you on that. Loki is a great villain, a classic of mythic proportion. However and this is a guess, perhaps brooding doesn't strike the judges as evil. Hell, I brood, I'm not sure I'm evil...though many many will argue that. Today especially.

As for first place if that is anybody issue.. let me be the one to say there is nothing more classic, in comics, TV, fiction, literature etc than mad scientists... and that is why I believe that one won.

I pick judges that I believe can be fair and have moderate or superior talent. Except for me, I ran the darn things... so poof I judge. There have been times when I have been very surprised what entries get picked, however I have never questioned a judge on their picks. I might ask them afterwards on what made them pick something but that is just a curiosity.

Here is a hint to future contest entries... Big Breasted female characters alone do not make a contest entry. Now BillyBob might object to that statement... but it's true and he knows.

Ok enough ranting... let all winners know they deserved their places and let all the winning impaired (not losers) keep working and perfecting their craft.

Bill this is all you now.

Just to elaborate on what Immortal said...

I was a judge in this contest, and here's what I look for in finalists: first, it has to be a well-done image (duh). What constitutes "well-done"? It's pretty subjective, but generally I want to see creativity, no aliased edges, no knees poking through pants (unless the pants are ripped like the Hulk's), etc. Second, I look for original effort. By this, I don't mean you have to model everything yourself to get in my good books -- hell, I don't even do that -- but chances are excellent that if all you've done is dropped in a bunch of free stuff with stock Poser lighting and no real effort toward creating something with any kind of flair, I won't even look twice. The final thing I look for is originality. Is this an image that has been done to death already (e.g. the ever-present naked Vicki with a sword) or is it something you don't see very frequently?

First off....we don't like to do it very much but lets give Immortal a big thanks, he's done a hell of a job with the contests over the last many years with putting them together, getting sponsors and all the technical crap.

Now that head is all ballooned up....

I look for similar things like ODS does. When I'm looking at the images the last thing I look at is the name of who it's by, I don't want my opinion swayed due to someone I know, now I don't care if they grabbed every free item off the net and put it in the image as long as it's done well, but I do want an image to "move" me, tell me part of a story, show emotion or action. Images that have the standard "I'm a hero/villain here I am" pin-up type pose don't do much for me (I know I've done a few of these myself). It doesn't matter to me if it's rendered in 3dmax, Poser, Cinema whatever or if you're a master or a novice as long as it goes with the theme and it's composed well.

But that's just me.....

Again a big "thanks" to Immortal and a big thanks to BillyBob for taking the reigns.

This is the first contest I've participated since back in the 3DCC era. For me, it was all about the the FUN, Excitement and CHALLENGE of the contest (plus I thought I would WIN some nifty cool stuff (dammit!).

Let me say, I really enjoyed the contest! Thanks for putting this BIG shindig together! I saw some great images! I might add that the contest had a certain mystique to it, A LOT in fact!(LOL) And now even more so, as I'm a wee bit confused over this comment.

"75% of all entrants tossed in entries that in no way followed the rules and theme what so ever. There were like 10 that got kicked due to nudity and that is plainly stated in the TOS of the site as a big NO."

So right off the bat, out of the 172 posted, that leaves about 43 "good" entries?!?!?!….WHOA!!!!! What's up with that?!?!?! When you say "theme" were the bad guys not "evil" enough... or was it that they weren't portrayed in the ACT of being "villianous"? (as in Loki Brooding or Loki kicking Thor in the nuts) Just wonderin' that's all?!??!!

ok i am going to lay down a public apology for throwing in a brief and undeserved rant into the forum. Honestly i have no kick. i think everyone did a really great job to the best of his or her abilities. i did not realize how involved with this site i had become until the contest results came up and i got all peeved. 10 minutes later after ordering some comfort food from dominos (pizza and kickers) i realized i was following a half dozen threads in the forums and thinking about the thumbnails for the stuff i am about to put into the free section. i also realized that i spend a good portion of my online day cruising this site and that i totally acted the ass in posting the last message. i do humbly apologise.

Ok right off the bat that % was pulled out of thin air from looking over the entries during the judging. I didn't got through and count the ones I was referring too. I was also counting the numerous that many might never have seen, due there having to be pulled for one violation or another. still after review including the removed ones, I'd still say it was 50%... and if you think about it that says 1/2 the people missed the point. It's not their images weren't well done either, but didin't say to the judges... I followed theme.

When we said villians and villiany, I elaborate that it could be comics, movies, literature.
Quote:
Ok, With a Bazillion really evil people to pick from in movies, comics and even literature, Why go worrying about a dead former hero that was bouncin around inside his villian father's head.
Go for the real and don't nick pick about the maybe.

I was very surprised that there were as many original characters who the judges would have no idea what the deal is with them and why they are evil or enough of a story to elicit a response. The original announcement refferred to Supervillians and NOT super heroes.. no heroes. That implies comics.. but we didn't actually limit it to that. A big thing with contests especially ours is creating the best image you can within the given parameters.

as for the scope that people missed opurtunities... countless Bond villians, I'm surprised Has didn't pull his Dr Evil out for this one, there were some star wars and star trek though not as many as i thought giving their popularity. And Comics my god for every comic there is at least one villian. most have many.

to sum up, I'm not slammin anyone.. I'm just tellin you people what you kept askin during the contest. I got a bunch of PM's asking what we judged on.. and I always replied Theme and following the rules.
I'm fairly sure most people stopped reading 50 or more words back, so I'm putting this reply to bed.

You all suck... my "Evil invisible man floating in space on at the end of time when all the stars are gone.", wasn't picked! Even though I didn't enter it you should have telepathicly recognized and rewarded my brilliance. :D

(This was a joke. This was only a joke. Had this been a real rant you would be within your right to *Whomp* me upside my head and tell me to kiss my ass goodbye.)

On a saner note... When's the next contest? :-D

Congratulations to all the winners first off..
The Mad Scientist images was pretty darn good. Excellent concept, lighting, and pose/expression.
The Dr. Doom image (2nd place) had probably one of the best concepts (only real flaw was harsh shadows with some noticable lack of AA in the shadow)

I have participated in some form/fashion the last 3 or so Animotions (3DCC) contests and have always enjoyed them... We really need more of them...

Things to consider...
1) Drop the names (make the entries anonymous) removes the precieved bias towards "real" members. I am not a troll, nor am I a "real" member... Just a guy who does poser images, likes comic books/movies, and appreciates what you guys are doing here with regards to galleries/free stuff/contests..
2) I would like to see the entries scored and let the artists see the scores... Just because I thought it was the greatest thing ever doesn't mean others do (Art is subjective)... I need to know were to improve... Was it the lighting, the pose, textures, concept, application towards the theme..
3) More contests less prizes... I do it for fun... Really I already owned Poser5 and Vue Pro (the gift certs would have been nice, but...)

Cheers...

I am not sure why there is ranting going on i mean you had 3 chances to come up with a villian that is known as a villian and nothing more i mean heck i picked flagsmasher from captain america comics no doubt a true villian granted i just through that image together and it shows, next i picked cobra grunts since it is not just the main characters that can be evil but the suporting cast also, finally i did an image with deadpool i know he can be seen as a vllian or a hero but since i know him best as a villian i chose to make him my final pick. I used him in a pick were he is running out of a tunnel type thingy as fire was blowing out the entrance. did he cause the fire or is he running from it out of fear that is up to the viewers.
I can say i read more into the rules than some since i took it as you needed to create your own villians and not use ones found in the free area.
was i wrong in thinking this i don't know all i do know is i had fun making the characters and making the pics. not to mention i now have a few more characters to put in images now.
Personally i think everyone did a good job in the contest and should feel good about it. as for the staff that put this contest together and judged the images Thanks ya'll have done a great job and i look forward to the next contest.
