Now repeat after me, "you wippersnappers don't know when you have it easy. Why when I was starting out all we had was the PoserDork and a plaid mini skirt!"
I have to admit I agree with you on a lot of that. Good ol'morphs were easy to use. INJs are a nice evolution but it dried up the 3rd party morph business. CL so over engineered P5 that, unless you're fanatical about sticking with the basics, there's no telling what will happen when the mesh is exported. D|S doesn't promice to be any picnic either.
On the other hand textures are better, clothes are better and there are a lot more pose sets out there. So it is stil worth swimming with the sharks. |

I agree;)
But I must admit, that I'm using P5 as my main rendering engine... OK, I have a beast of a PC. It roars. it purrs. It renders tough, ray-traced, reflection based scenes smoothly.
But I also use a lot of Photoshop (a very large lot) as I believe it's no crime to enhance renders that way. When I export poser figures into Bryce (I've got the old one) I never get the lighting right - silly me.
And it's true that once it was both easier and more difficult to make something with Poser - easier, as the meshes were lighter and everything worked perfectly fine. Difficult, as all we had was 'the PoserDork and a plaid mini skirt' - I didn't have the plaid mini skirt!!!
Anyway, PaN... I think Shrike would look good as M3. I always thought of him as of a dead handsome, dark and broodish guy... (hey, I'm a girl!) and thus... Anyway, it's up to you. _________________ ----

(sorry about the formatting had to copy and paste this from notepad since am at work)
LOL I do agree that it's worth sifting through the sharks. I even speak from experience.
I spent the better part of last night swimming through the sea of content over at Daz3d!
I've been really serious about seeing a big advancement in the next issue (well the biggest one person could possibly do that has no time in his life whatsoever to even do this sorta thing). I've got a workstation that cost enough so it's capable of doing some serious laps around poser as well as other 3d apps with ease, but the problem is I had two HD crashes in one year (turns out the company had a bad batch of drives) and after the 3rd one was installed (from a DIFFERENT place this time)the techie didn't quite get the optimization correct I believe because it runs a bit sluggish. Sometimes it comes dangerously close to no memory when I'm doing something simple, and I have a gig of ram with dual processors. So that's one annoying hinderence until I get it squared away.
As for Shrike, yes, he's supposed to be brooding and handsome haha, but it's hard with the Poser Dork. I've always envisioned him as Spanish. Not necessarily from "Spain" but definitely "ethnic" in some way. Possibly American with Spanish. I do plain on upgrading to Vicky 3 and possibly Stephanie 3 Mike 3 as well as David, but the cost of getting them clothed again OUI!
Which brings me to a problem I've encountered. I'm upgrading Eve to Vicky status, however I've noticed that there's no leotard or whatchamicallit (with the no-sleeves and straps) body suit for vicky in her clothing pack. When I bought it years back I wasn't really thinking of now, so it didn't dawn on me to check into it, but now that I'm upgrading Eve...how do I slap on the same clothes for her to wear the same outfit? Is there a P4 clothing to MilVickie trick? I'd only need to do this for a few panels before I could switch out safely. |

The V3 Catsuit is a morph trans!
Bwa-ha-ha-ha.
Actually somebody must have done something such like. Check PoserWorld.
And there is a V2->V3 thingie in my V3 character directory in P5. Not that I ever used it.. That might be what you are looking for.
You guys point out something else that's changed from the good ol'days. Them that are still at it have built up some tremendous horsepower behind them. reasonable quantities of sequential art are not going to be coming off this years Dell College Special or a 12" iBook.
For the record I built my system specifically so I could do HCK:SoE.
Towit: Dual G4s, 1.25GB RAM, .5 TB of hard disk space and a 21"flat panel screen.
And yet I do so lust after dual G5s now that the G4 is paid for.
So much HD, eh? why so? Friends, the iPod isn't a device it's a harsh mistress. All those tunes gotta go somewhere. (desperate cry for help) |

That's POINT 5 TB
480GB actually if we want to niggle 20 GB
And its it's all over the place.
80GB came with the box, I added 120GB (int) when I started HCK:SoE as the production disk 18 months ago ($200), I was given yet another 80 (int) by a friend and at MacWorld I bought a LaCie (Ext) 200 ($200)
So not all that expensive.
Largest contiguous block of Disk is 200GB
No need to drool.
It's only big if you try to back it all up to floppy.
You could get a LaCie 1TB (ext) for less than $1 a GB at MacWorld. |

Still that's alot. (yes I DO know what you mean about having to burn that much out to back it up though - ugh!)
I might have to go your route and get that Lacie though. You recommend it?
I'm of the "get 40 gigs and a burner" school normally. 40 gigs to work with and a burner to back it all off to when it's full. But that backup drive sounds very cool and is gonna probably be necessary soon. I'm planning (from the next issue on) to create a special hierarchy for my files so that whenever I back each issue up...or switch computers Poser can find stuff with ease. So that extra drive would be great. I'd contain all the files there...and let poser search for it as needed on a case by case issue. Backing the whole thing up the whole while on CD/DVD as necessary. _________________ PANdaRUS

Oops I also forgot m y ol'iPod for an additional 10, if that counts.
I say it should since that's where I keep my copy of Os X Server.
So far no probs with the LaCie. It goes to sleep with a noticeable "clunk" is all. Nifty blue tally light. Y.A.W.W. (Yet Another Wall Wart) necessitated I buy a new Power Strip from Belkin with the rotated plug form factor - cheep $12.
For the nonce it will be the repository for my music library and my photo library. Speedy. iTunes has no prob streaming from it.
I filled one of those old flip top 5.25 floppy boxes with CDs in double sided plastic sleeves backing up HCK:SoE. Crammed, actually and I've still been lax and not backed up everything. About 125 CDs in all.
I make my psychiatrist a very rich man. |

Oh please...please back your stuff up. Don't make me tell you my story.
Tooo late.
See that gun in Calib and Shrike's hand? (in my comic)
GONE. FOREVER. BYE BYE.
Took me a few hours to model it, but I was pleased with it and POOF! GONE cause my HD crashed soon after making it and it wasn't back'd up! If it wasn't for my saved pose using it in Poser I wouldn't even have it for use in the few panels I used it in during issue 5: part 2! (GRR!)
(notice my slight of hand and camera trickery haha) |

Speaking of which...how could I possibly get it OUTTA poser now? It's there...saved onto Calib's hand...I can delete him and use it there...but it's stuck in poser.... ? |

| You could export it out as an OBJ *shrug* That would even enable you to make a "Federation 21 freebie" *grin* |

He's right
Delete him and export the scene.
I'll just bet it shows up in the hierarchy somewhere.
Have no fear. everything here that is irreplaceable is on multiple drives.
Except for all the new HCK3 stuff. Thx for the reminder.
finding stuff... well that's a different matter |

Oh silly me...yea I can take it out of there (me fo'gots sorry it's crunch time at work...fast posts here and there ya know?) what I meant to say was that I lost the actual files that I created it in. Which would have made life really easy for changes and stuff. I could make it again. I know what it looks like...just didn't have the desire after I was so ticked off about losing the files.
There was some sorta problem though...getting it outta poser, can't recall what it was...be it getting it to texture right...or something...I'll have to try again soon and see if I recall.
Speaking of freebies...someone would actually WANT that gun? We talking about the same gun? Do you mean THIS gun?

It's got a kind of deco look to it.
Turn it into a TV camera and you got a deal.
(yes, I'm haggling over a freebie. I have no shame) |

Sorry I took so long to get back to you on that, it sure has been busy 'round my job! Hmph!
The process of updating F21 is slowly progressing...hit daz3d up and picked up a slew of stuff as well as joined their "Premium Content" club. Gotta recommend it if even for a month - you sign up and immediately get access to a ton of free downloads...cool stuff too.
As for the "deco gun/camera" haha...Let me see what I can do sometime this evening. If I can't do any thing major with it...I'll possibly put it out as is and maybe you can tweek it to your needs _________________ PANdaRUS
