Well, from what i know, the paid archives work like this: not the whole issue is free, but a page per week or fortnight. So, You actually have only one page (or two at most) available at one time. I know there are some ways of preventing that page from dowload. I'm not an expert on either programming or web designing, but I've deffinatelly come across images that whenever I try to 'save as' them;) a nice little frame shows up, saying 'sorry, content belongs to X.'

There is also 'print screen' option for copying the secured .jpg, but then all one can do is to make the image somewhat larger than the screen resolution... (which can be hard)

Ok, I guess I can't help more.

But the calendar/contest thingy sounds promising:)

Hey, don't wanna go so offtopic here, can't you just shoot in the city and that's it?

Some places, some locations you can, but in major cities, at least in Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa and the Province of New Brunswick (Then only places we have ever filmed), you need a permit, and depending what kind of shooting you plan on doing, you may need to get more city approval, if for instance there may be traffic interuptions, possibility of any kind of damage yadda yadda yadda.

I dont know for sure about the US scheme and how they work it, or all cities for that matter. But I do know if I am on an city/public area to shoot for an extended time, say a downtown sidewalk, that could stop people from using the area, I pay a fee.

But its all worth it.

Actually, just a tip, when you see that, all ir requires is clicking in the window with the image, and using CTRL-C to copy it, then you can paste it full size into any paint program. Voila! you now have that page.

Another option for the comics would be what DC Comics does with their previews. You can download the first 3-5 pages as a PDF, but then you have to buy the book to see the rest.

That's generally what is going on on onlinecomic.net, but you're not buying the whole book, but rather seperate pages. After summing up the number of pages. In my case it's 8 free, 19 per 15 cents... which gives a total of $2.85 per issue. Regular price. i'm not saying it's the best solution (it is not) but it's the only one I can use.

Anyway, if an issue is to be sold, it has to be somewhat normalized: like regular number of pages, regular price.

Money is a slicky topic.

sorry...had to reformat, been reinstalling the last couple days....

anywho...if you're looking for general animotions type merchandise, I could probably work out a deal with my bro-inlaw, mousepads, tshirts that sort of thing pretty cheap, for any type of "large format" printing, up to something like 16x22 I could probably do myslef for just the cost of the paper, so that may help bring in some income to the site. ????

that's cool, but I think the question went more in the line of www.cafepress.com

I mean, what if people wanted a coffee mug with the log of my comic on it... or a mouse pad... how much is it to make just ONE mousepad, one t-shirt, etc...

'cause the idea is not to have merchandising in storage, but to produce merchandise on demand, as cafepress does it.

I figure is impossibly expensive, but we just wanted to know more about it...

Here's an idea: host a Comicbook Idol contest, a star search for the latest hot creative talent. But there's got to be a semi-awesome cash grand prize to make it attractive for the competitors. And lots of promotion to bring in the readership to vote on their favorite idol. Should they pay to vote?
The contestants must come up with 3 complete pages a week for 12 weeks or more, suitable for both print and the web, featuring characters wholly owned & copyrighted by Animotions.com (that way the profits are locked in). 2D and 3D inclusive, the readers vote each week and a contestant gets eliminated. I was thinking of this to revive my old series, but I'll share. Or has this already been done?

Actually, Renderotica and Animotions are two separate companies, both owned by Diane. She also owns DTG Studios.

Navel,

Your idea is intriguing. The only flaw is, there's no semi-awesome cash to offer up as the prize. We need sponsorships from companies. anybody that has any connections with any software/hardware companies, we could use 'em.
