HEH Try me!
Give me the wherewithal to put together a stable of computer artists and writers and see what I do. I love being JJE creator of HCK but I'd much rather be Walt Disney. :-)

--

You say that now, but you seen what I put Kayla through.. can you imagine what I would put Kelly and gang.:)

---
What were we talking about. Oh yea women.
I don't think it is unique to comics that strong women character are few and far between. At the end of the day there's always some group of fat-assed white guys in shiny suits pulling the strings. There is no Laura Croft marketing empire without first the over-ample Laura Croft rack. In Alien2 Ripley did a Rambo but based on purely female sensibilities and drives. They fixed that in the next two movies didn't they? Rambo always gets to fight another day, not so Ripley. Just more of the Lady Jane Grey story.
-----

Since I never seen the last two movies yet, I have very little clue as to what you are talking about. Yea.. Lara Croft has an empire..but if only people remember what she looked like in the Original Tomb Raider.. all blocky..:)

----

It's all part of a self-fulfilling prophesy. Female comics stars never sold as well as the male, viz Wonder Woman. Therefore fewer resources were given to them, writers didn't have to work as hard producing titles that, as a result sold poorly etc etc. So she's reduced to the tortured sidekick. Nowadays they may attempt to write more depth into the female character, but it's the buff hunk who leads.

----

For once, I would like to see a woman just hit the buff hunk right where it hurts..:) I mean, be nice and bold..but it wouldn't sell well I imagine with the fat guy in the shinie shoes pulling the strings.

---

I think its funny. We all began stuck with limited geometric resources. Make your lead a girl or be satisfied with producing a product that's extremely ugly.
That's not necessarily true anymore. You wouldn't know that by listening to us though. We've become very protective of our dear personas. I think that is a very good thing.
-----

As I said before, my idea for Kayla came before I was mucking around with posette (get you minds out of the gutters). I did my damnest to make P4 Man to look somewhat respectible..may not of totally succeeded but, still. Hell, I still laugh at the original incarnation of Roq. Compare Roq Mike and Dork.. Mike looks scarier..and the sad thing in, I made the morphs via magnets for mike since little existed for what I wanted at the time. I had a rough time transiting Kayla to a millinium figure, but finally did so with help from a friend. But other then a figure change, the storied character stayed the same. She is still a green eyed, redhair, pale somewhat freckled girl who could kick your butt anyday of the week.:) She is a STRONG woman.. she is a PROUD woman..for that sake, she is an IRISH woman.:)

----
OT: In two months I'm being showcased by a friendly software company. They want samples. Tonight I went through HCK2 for the first time since I started. Very quickly, out of sequence using a little slide viewer I got for Os X. I had evidence (unfounded thank god) that some images never saved properly.
Anyway... I am one very troubled artist, that's clear. But it's in there. Rough to be sure. But I can see it, it's there.
-----

A friendly software company? I never heard of one yet.:) But cool.. our stories are like coal.. we just chisel it to make it a diamond.:)

Does the term beneveloent despot ring any bells? 60 hour weeks, staff meeting of sheer terror but free pizza and beer on Fridays.
I've played "what would I do if.." for a long time.
No way you would get near Kelly. I'd likely still have you on Kayla and on your back about keeping your own staff in line.
Pliable interns...Mmmmmmm.

Naw just less insane than most. Come to think on it, if they want me maybe they are more insane. Of course they just told me they want 800 words on the wonderfullness of myself plus pix and screen shots. Sould make for an interesting weekend this.
On the other hand, wait till you see what affordable software this is for. (by way of creating tension and anticipation in the audience :-) )

Would work for me except the beer and pizza part. I am not supposed to eat pizza..just doesn't agree with me at this point because it has cooked veggies and fruits, and cheese.. and oh boy, fiber on a baked.. I would be paying for days if I ate one..:)

The only problem is, I am my own staff..I am the sole guy of heresy. And the only way I take interns if they are cute, and they know how to wash their dresses.:) (yes, a clinton joke)

Affordable is one thing, me seeing is another story ..cause I seem to remember the mention of OS X. Mind you, I run win2k, so there might be a capability problem:)

I would've posted to this topic sooner but the overpowering and strong women of Darker Age press were too busy threatening the safety of my life and the ability to walk without the use of crutches, if I put them in a picture that had them getting unjustifily stomped.
So trust me when I say Darker AGe PRess has some strong women, and really mean ones too. Never ever call Sharpshooter a puss, trust me on that.
But to see what I've been slightly busy with, is a special project for Darker Age press, and I'll give you a WIP preview... though I can't mention the project right now.
Hush, hush, wink, wink, know what I mean?

And just in case you didn't think Cav was being serious:

http://www.darkeragepress.com/strongwomen.jpg

(Warning. Adult-styled humor depicting a pair of Darker Age Press characters. See 'age of consent' in your locality before hitting this link. And no, it's not THAT kind of adult-styled. If you're thinking of THAT sort of adult-style after looking at this, I'm not sure whether to smirk or just be appalled.)

See? Not only are they strong characters, some of them are downright @&^*!@# dangerous.

*ROFL!* She stabbed him in the noogies? Damn - and she looked like such a sweet little thing. ;]

Heh heh. I backed up to the http://www.darkeragepress.com/ and browsed around...

A bit of a shock to see myself listed in the "DARKER AGE PRESS COMICS ARE POWERED BY THE FOLLOWING CONTRIBUTORS:" list. ;]

Well, it's the truth, isn't it? I mean, the people at this forum specifically (and Animo in general) have been quite possibly the most influential in making sure we keep the spur to our respective arses to get some comics out. So we would have been really remiss if we didn't give you guys your due there.

And as far as the lovable and generally half-naked fey woman... welllllll... yes, both of our fey are generally sexy. And they both like the thought of bathing in blood. We just had to have some sort of a kickback against the generally 'peace, love and flower magic' fey that some New Age buffs are all about. Not that I have anything against them, but man, you live with some new age devotees and you get rampantly sick of the chant, lemme tell ya.

I mean, we want to talk about DiD stereotypes? What the heck, do those things just exist to breathe nature? Is that all the fey are supposed to be good for? I say NO! That's a mass generalization and dangerously skirts the line between prejudice and outright gentrification! We must stand for the rights of nubile elfine creatures, we must press forward to allow them to be something besides the foo-foo magic-loving happy creatures that misunderstood myth makes them out to be! Join with me!!!

(Mark apologizes, and blames the half-naked elf pointing a wicked blade to his throat for that outburst.)
